I applied for student housing in downtown (í miðbæ) Reykjavík. One room is 12m² for 42,000 ISK, the other is a shared apartment with a bigger kitchen and inbuilt bathroom for 49,000 ISK. It's 29m² altogether but I am not sure how big the respective room is (probably around 12m² as well). Both are furnished.
I'll try and see if I can score that room from a private landlady, which would be super tiny, but furnished and only 35,000 ISK. That's really cheap compared to other accommodations which usually rank between 45-65k. It'd be a huge improvement on my financial situation, that much is certain.
One of the complexes is called Ásgarðar. How funny would that be to reside there? Imagine the confused and disbelieving answers you'd get when you state your address. Who knows, maybe my neighbor/flatmate will be a Þórr, even!
Random fact: Eldhús is a cute word for kitchen.
