I had a bit of a scare last night, where Luna woke up at around 9:30 suddenly making the scariest noise, struggling to breathe >_> it was so awful, as she was crying from.being scared I think, and that was making it harder for her to breathe. I eventually managed to calm her down, but I was obviously still concerned about what had caused it, and her breathing still being a bit laboured, so we took her to the ER.

The hospital here is only small, so luckily it wasn't busy, being so late at night and all. We were seen right away by a nurse, and by a doctor soon enough. Luna was being semi calm at first, so initially I thought she wouldn't show any of the symptoms, and I was worried they'd think I was wasting their time; but she got a bit frightened by the doctor when he was examining her, I think, that she started crying, and thus making the awful sounds again (the nurse said it sounded like a seal!) when breathing. He said he was fairly certain it was croup, and asked me to hang tight while they decided what course of treatment to follow. Luna calmed down after he stepped away, to which he commented "I usually have that effect on women" xDDD he decided it was only a mild case, and that she didn't need help to breathe with a nebuliser; but only some meds. Metha-something (something with steroids to help Luna's breathing track open). They gave me some info to read on croup, which is apparently common in small children because they have such small trackeas that a little bit of inflammation is enough to cause distress of this nature; that children can get it around winter time from all sorts of viruses. Sean thought at first she might have been having an asthma attack because he's had mild asthma all of his life, and Tommy used to have it as a baby, where it can come back a bit when he catches a cold. But I'd rather croup than a chronic condition like asthma. Even if it was such an awful fright.

The children went back to bed ok considering, and we all managed to catch some sleep when back home. Luni's been awfully grumpy today, so my arms feel like they're about to fall of from tending to her all day, but at least her breathing is ok, and has gone to bed fairly early. Fingers crossed she starts feeling better soon. She was scheduled for her 5 months vaccinations today, but had to postpone until she's ok.

[I cannot imagine what my sister went through. Witnessing your child struggling to breathe has got to be one of the worst feelings in the world. It must have been so so awful to watch baby Samantha die and not be able to do anything about it. Sigh. I am so so lucky. I must remember this always. Every time the little monsters are being a pain].

I got a new tray to try to increase my germination success rate. It has this mat that is supposed to help keep the soil moist, which has been my problem so far I think. I am also trying some jiffy pellets, and some direct sowing. Not putting all my seeds in one basket xD

Sean got a bunch of tomato plants from one of the stores to give me a head start. 3 of them were quite large already ("Dad's Delight" read the tag), and 3 seedlings (a money maker, and two beefsteaks, or the other way around). Got some basil to go with because I really struggled to get my own going last summer. I will try again, but I'm not hopeful...

So I have sowed a little bit (meaning like 5 seeds each)

Mountain corn
Regular corn
Red yard long beans
Green yard long beans
Blue dwarf beans
Oxheart tomatoes
Pepinos
A single space saver cucumber (might do one more)
Direct sown some watermelon radish

I need to do more, as am falling behind compared to all my gardening peeps on facebook, but I only have a small area on top of the washing machine at the moment, and don't know when all of the winter stuff will be done. I have pulled some stuff, but I still have loads of sprouting broccoli going at various stages. I guess it's good this way, having everything a bit staggered. Its going to be a long growing season here in Gizzy, I bet.

I'm also going to do some flowers in a new area sean has tidied up for me. It's much too wet over winter to plant anything in, but it's ok during spring summer, I guess. I'm thinking of doing teddy bear sunflowers along all the edges of the garden, some marigolds and nasturtiums, and in the new "wet" area, blue bells and yellow lantern lilies (being perennial, I'm hoping they can sort of look after themselves in the mild winters we get, and pretry up the place almost year round). I started off thinking I only wanted to grow edibles, but now I think flowers would really enhance the place, not to mention bring more bees.
