1. Continue with the lavalife thing, but find other ways to branch out and meet new people/men.
2. Read the following books: 2666, Count of Monte Cristo, Gravity's Rainbow.
3. Continue to whittle down debt load.
4. Make chèvre.

To prevent myself from slipping into a holiday funk/depression, I've decided to try something different this year. Rather than opt out of the season, I'm going to try and embrace it.

Today I successfully procured crochet cotton to make Goalie Joe a table runner and some embroidery floss to work on another cross-stitch project. My passport application is in the mail. I have officially worked on every one of the goals I set for myself this year. I have more poetry to read, more bees to draw and more pies to bake. But I can say I've done it all. And I still have four months left.

I have asked a few people about making a really good pie crust and figured out that I have the basics down but simply need to use colder water and not overwork the pastry ( Read more... )

Goal #2) Make bread.
Done.
Two loaves of French bread baked today. Need a little bit more salt and the slashes need to be of a more regular depth. Pretty easy.

That leaves drawing more bees, reading more poetry, getting my passport and making a good pie crust left. Still looks do-able.

I finished Doctor Zhivago, by Boris Pasternak. It was the May selection for my 20th C Russian Lit project. Other than how interesting it was and that I wished I'd read it when turn-of-the-century Russian history was fresher in my mind, I don't have much to say about it. Very poetic and lovely.
