My free Penguin Classic arrived at the weekend. Now I have six weeks to read Golden Legend, a collection of medieval hagiographies, and write a review of it.

Apparently, it was a major bestseller in the 1200s. Over a thousand manuscript copies in almost every European language, including Provençal, survive, plus it was one of the first books ( Read more... )

So, this week it's Banned Books Week in the US. The American Library Association highlights the number of books which get 'challenged' in libraries, and tabulates the results. Last year's Top Ten:
