History: The Wikia covers it and then some. Personality: Really, in the contest of shounen protagonists you'd want to take home to your parents, Allen might seem at first to be a clear winner. He's polite to a fault, he knows how to make money *, and he maintains a warm cheerfulness throughout his mission to save the world. Who doesn't love a saviour? Sure, he has little flaws, like his tendency to get lost easily: overturning a cup on him could keep him trapped and stumped for days. And his ability to eat someone out of house and home - a side effect of his weapon, parasitic Innocence that leeches off his life - won't look as cute once the bills start coming in. And although he'll gladly show concern or shoulder the burdens of friends and lecture them about overextending themselves - seriously, how stupid is working yourself to near-death in a war where you're one of the few chosen able to fight? - Allen mysteriously manages to ignore the moments when those principles should apply to himself. To the comrades he fights for, he won't show doubt or weakness, not for a second. And he'll never give up, let someone down, or desert them if he has the choice. *
* In a way, you could call him the nineteenth-century equivalent of a rickroll.
Underlying motivations aside, it'd be a lie to claim that Allen isn't a bit of a brat. He holds fast to ideals of kindness and justice, all right. But that doesn't mean that he won't blackmail the Supervisor of a Black Order branch to get his weapon back so that he can go fight in the war, or cheat a trio of scheming hobos into near-nakedness to restore the possessions they'd stolen from his friend. His special abilities break down into three types: those to do with his Innocence, those to do with his cursed eye, and those to do with the 14th Noah, the Musician who's awakening in Allen's consciousness. His Innocence activates into a white cloak and a set of razor claws (think Edward Scissorhands crossed with Auguste the clown); the cloak acts as armour and the claws enable a variety of energy-related shields and blasts. When driven to the edge, he can also pull a giant broadsword out of his arm. Yeeeah. Allen's cursed eye, when activated, allows him to see the souls within the Akuma (and allow others nearby to see them as well), sense them when they're close (within a few hundred feet) and/or force them into their true shape. Thirdly: since the Musician hasn't fully awakened, the Noah abilities have yet to be revealed. For now, they're confined to controlling the Ark, which will not be arriving with him

(Note: I don't plan on overplaying the struggle between the 14th and Allen since we don't have enough canon information about the 14th, but figured it was worth mentioning since it has mental/emotional consequences on Allen.)
