Summary: Eric doesn't take well to the advice Ciel gave him, and instead goes out exploring again. He bumps into the distortion that wracks his mind, and his unbeating heart.

Reno of course had followed, after all, he had developed somewhat of a bond with the vampire, even if he wasn't about to admit it out loud, any more than Eric would have. Something had disturbed him about Eric taking off, his senses ringing off the hook, and he'd remembered Ciel's advice not to go out, and if you had to do so, to make sure you were armed and preferably accompanied. Which had led to him, as soon as he was mobile enough and strong enough to do so, keeping close tabs on Eric

Kiddy cursed under her breath as she drove towards their general direction. She was put on the night shift again and she could really kill something right about then. She got a call this time about a suspicious man heading out of town. Kiddy had only half listened, she knew she was supposed to just be 'checking' on them, but she really felt this was pointless.

She parked just a little ways away from them. She had already figured out about where they were since she could hear them. She thought this suspicious person might be Eric, but somehow she didn't actually expect to find him. She pulled out her gun upon hearing the word monster. She didn't go head first into a fight like she normally would, since all she saw was three men and she knew Eric wasn't the monster, so it had to be one of the other two.

Eric never got a proper goodbye. The man just decided to meet the sun and end his life, and he was not even allowed to join him. Forced away by his master he had to continue on with the only man he had ever felt a sense of caring for, and it ached him as much as he pushed it down under his wit and sarcasm. It was still his maker... and he longed to be by his side once more

Reno hit the side of the car hard, but he got back up, even as shaky on he was on his feet, and gave chase once more. "That's the monster." he gestured in the direction of the one that Eric was following and followed after him again. He was more than a little worried about the vampire, something in his heart pulling at him a little. He knew how he'd feel if it had taken the form of someone close to him, and that he'd have a similar amount of difficulty trying to tell real from false, but he didn't want Eric to get himself killed

Kiddy fired a couple shots, but missed since they were going too fast. "Dammit!" She was starting to understand that this was the same monster that took on her own form, to hurt someone close to her. "That BITCH!"

She pulled out her biggest gun and stopped when the red haired boy told her to wait. She wasn't sure how he was connected to Eric, and maybe, just maybe, somewhere in the cold mechanical workings of her body cared just a tiny bit that something could happen to him. For her, this fight was more personal because the very thing that keeps Kiddy's body powered is her deep desire for revenge, although mainly on WIRE, this monster had made her list.

She quickly got back to her car, some call was coming in over the radio but she completely ignored it. Nothing could pull her away from this now. She grabbed the video camera in the car and despite it being attatched to the car she managed to rip it out with it still being fully functional

The longing had grown since the week began, as if the distortion had pulled back those deep and buried emotions about the only person he had ever.... loved? That was what Sookie had called it, and although he no longer understood the words, he understood the importance of Godric. 2000 years old, powerful, wise, and with such a large heart. And even he had lost hope in his life and turned to the sun. Maybe that was why Eric was so easily fooled by the illusion, because he longed to know why

I can't let him die the thought had rung through his head as he filmed for a few moments, getting the face of the doppelganger on film as he ran next to Eric. He settled down, a slight tremor running through the slim frame, but he had to try, he had to. "Eric, look, it's not real." He turned the camera on and set the screen close enough that Eric could see it, the illusion in front of his eyes much different than the amorphous and blobbish shape on the screen.

"I know you want it to be, Goddess knows I can understand how badly, There are so many people I'd die to be near again, but dying for a lie, it isn't worth it, and you have people here who care about you too."Quietly, with his head down because he was almost certain Eric probably wouldn't believe him. "I'm one of 'em. Yeah, it started out as physical attraction, but over these past few days of watching out for you, I've grown to genuinely care about you

While Reno tried to reason with Eric, Kiddy fought off some of the extra monsters making their way towards them. Not because she didn't think they could be handled easily, but because she didn't want any distractions from killing the damn dopple ganger.

She didn't know what to say to Eric to really comfort him, she was so distatched from her feelings, it was hard to relate to anyone anymore. "Eric, you may be an asshole, but I'm not letting you die here." It may not sound like much, but really it was her way of saying that she cared.

After fighting off the more unimportant monsters, she got behind the doppleganger, with her gun pointed at the back of its head. She didn't shoot quite yet, she wanted to be sure that Reno had gotten through to Eric before she full out killed this thing.

Eric's entire form felt on edge by what he was seeing. It was Godric, standing there plain and simple. He knew well that the man wasn't him, he KNEW that he had died and burst into a thousand pieces of nothing. But his brain wouldn't accept it, it was as if he couldn't accept it. He hadn't been able to accept his death now, and now standing in front of him, he couldn't believe that he had done what he wanted

The scent of rot and grave dirt filled Reno's nose, and he knew, without being told, what it was. He'd studied up on some of the creatures in this place since getting burned by the child, and he knew what that smell meant, his mind had taken it in, almost immediately, and retained it. He did something that would likely get him into a lot of trouble, but he wasn't going to let Eric be harmed any more than the vampire had already.

He reacted utterly on instinct, not touching Eric, because the man had asked him not to, but he threw himself up as a shield between the miasma and Eric, letting it wrap around him and swallow him up. The only thing to come from him at first was a light hiss, even though it set up like a fire across his back. "Just get him out of here!" He yelled in Kiddy's direction. "Don't worry about me, get Eric back into town, even if you have to fight him to do it!" I won't let him die was Reno's last thought right before the pain ripped all coherent thought away utterly

Kiddy flew back a few feet and into a tree which snapped in two upon impact. She had to take a second to shake it off, it had been years since someone had actually been capable of throwing her. Once ready, she charged back in at them, this time at Eric, grabbing him forcefully.

"I don't know who that guy is to you, but he just sacraficed himself to save your dumb ass! You'd trade someone who gives a damn about you to save a monster that looks like someone else!? This person isn't real. This very creature took on my form to hurt someone I care about just two weeks ago. I'm going to kill it and save your sorry ass, and you're going to be damn greatful!"

She pulled back her fist and threw a punch right at Eric's face. If she had to take him down first or at least render him unconcious, then she was a bitch enough to do it.

Eric barely noticed the burn. He didn't seem to care at all, lingering on the man and the want to just get something out of him. "[Goderic, talk to me! Please!]" he called out one more before the woman's arm tugged him away, forcing him away from Godric. He was restraining, struggling, not listening to anything around him. All he wanted was to know why.

The figure before him fell away for a moment as Eric was dragged back. He separated between the two of them, releasing his shirt from his body and throwing it away. Then, as he continued back, fire consumed his skin, heat began to burn over him, and within a minute, it disappeared in a puff of smoke.

"GODRIC," he screamed once more as he disappeared, and turned his eyes now, choking on his tears as he stood up. His... skin was melting away, what was this? He looked over to Reno, and over to Kiddy, choking down his emotions for a moment. "What are you two idiots standing here for!? The air is dangerous get out!!!"

"Saving your ass." was choked out as he fought his way to his feet, His whole back feeling like it was in flames, but he and Kiddy had managed to get Eric back to himself again, and that was what mattered. Reno's step was shaky, his legs trembling like those of a newborn fawn as he walked up to them. "You ran into a doppelganger." he explained, finally getting himself fully free of the miasma, though he had no idea if it had done much damage to the skin of his back or not

Kiddy gave Eric a stern look. "You hardly have room to call us idiots." She was still remaining distant from both of them, but somehow Eric in this situation reminded her of Katsumi just a little. It was an irritating feeling and somehow made her actually like Eric just a little more. Although she was not about to get sappy about it.

She looked at them both. The miasma hadn't left Reno looking so good. "We should probably get out of here now." Her face remained stoic expressionless. The longer they stayed here on the outskirts of town the more likely more monsters would come along, and she was a little concerned for Reno.

Doppleganger... Of course it wasn't Godric. But did he want to believe that? No. He wanted to take the thought that his master was still alive, that his maker hadn't just abandoned him for no good reason. Again, his heart ached as he relived watching him vanish before his eyes. Even if... he had never seen Godric fade. As he escaped the Miasma with them all his skin began to re-patch, healing the damage that had been done from him.

"... no, you're right..." he said to Kiddy, giving a rather odd disappointed look in himself as he continued along. Carrying Reno along with him he moved towards the inside of the city. "When we find a safe place, you can drink," he told Reno, sighing hard.

".... ...... you know, ... I don't want to know..." he also said, his voice very stoic and very soft as he carried Reno along. The entire meeting with the doppleganger really shook him to the bone.

"Thanks, yo." He leaned against Eric's chest, shaking his head at himself. He couldn't find the courage to repeat it now, but maybe. ..maybe he'd find the bravery to say it again soon enough, though his actions and the slight smile he wore would probably tell the tale well enough anyway. "Just. ..couldn't let anything happen to you, s'all." The blush burned its way even brighter, but he couldn't help himself really. He was fighting the urge to lick Eric's face clean but. ..he knew that'd freak the vampire out.

"Ya know, I'm supposed to be feeding you, not the other way around." he chuckled at himself, the full expanse feeling good to him as exhaustion tried to yank him under, but he wanted to stay awake right now, to enjoy it for however long or short a time he had it. The joke would leave him wide open for Eric to tease him in return, but he didn't mind one bit. The banter made things feel normal again.
