I am still really desperate to sublet my room for the summer (July/August).

I'm willing to drop the price to get it rented. I pay $850 per month, but I was originally asking $800 per month. Now I'd take $750 per month or even $700 if someone was going to be in there for July and August. Fuck it, just make me an offer.

Here is the text of the ad:

Large sunny furnished room available for July and/or August sublet in Bushwick, near the J, M, and L trains. Rent is $1500 for the whole summer. (Prices negociable for the right person.)

I'm spending the summer out of New York City and am looking for someone who is interested in subletting my large furnished room in Brooklyn for all or part of the time I am going to be away. I'd prefer if the sublettor was a friend or a friend of a friend, but am open to anyone who is queer friendly and connects well to the rest of the household.

Here are the details:

The neighborhood:
The apartment is located in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, two blocks from the Kosciusko stop on the J train and one block from both the B38 bus (to downtown Brooklyn) and B60 bus (to Williamsburg). The Dekalb Ave stop on the L train is a twelve minute walk away. This is not the industrial section of Bushwick, but is mostly residential. Two blocks away on Broadway are many stores, pharmacies, a laundrymat, restaurants, and coffee shops. Four blocks in the opposite direction is Knickerbocker Ave, which also has many stores, banks, and restaurants. I have always felt safe in the neighborhood. During the summer, many families hang out in front of their houses, so there are always people around, although our block is pretty quiet if noise is a concern.

The room:
The room is large and faces the street with a view of an old school building. There are two chests of drawers, a bed, a desk, and part of a large closet with mirrored doors. These will all be empty and ready for your (respectful) use. The room has two windows, wood floors, high-ish ceilings, and a fan, which keeps it cool in the hot summer. Even with all the furniture, the room is big enough to do yoga or stretch on a mat on the floor. This is a wonderful space to relax or do work.

The apartment:
The apartment is wonderful, two stories in a house in Bushwick, with a backyard that is nice to sit it. Currently, we are growing vegetables in the backyard with plenty of patio space for a BBQ. The ground floor of the house stays cool because it is partially underground and the second floor has ceiling fans and also stays cool. There are two bathrooms, a living room, a dining room (pictured), and a cute kitchen. It is clean and large and homey. It has been described as a "subterranean hacienda." There is also an unfinished basement which can be used for storage.

The roommates:
My two roommates are amazing, queer, political, musically-inclined, smart, and funny women. One is vegetarian, one is not. In general we have a pretty chill household (not a party house), though it's nice to have people over for dinner or a BBQ in the yard. There is also a cat.

Any roommate would have to be gay/queer-friendly and generally respectful of other household members. Any smoking has to happen outside the house.

This is the perfect apartment for someone who is moving to New York and needs a few months to explore the neighborhoods of the city before
signing their own lease or for someone who is in New York for a summer internship. Because of the storage in the basement, you can easily stow your stuff until September.

Prices ARE negotiable for the perfect roommate, especially if my roommates like you and you are willing to put down a deposit to hold the room. I am happy to write up a contract of the sublet if you feel more comfortable. (I don't want to have to worry about someone ditching out at the last minute, which happened last year.)

Please e-mail with questions about the apartment and information about yourself and your situation and possibly to schedule a visit.
