Today I spent half an hour basically telling my mom to euthanize our dog. :( It's heartbreaking. Sherman's decline has been so gradual that it's so hard for them to put a finger on where they need to say "No, this is too much pain/too little quality of life." Knowing my parents, it probably won't be as soon as next week -- between getting the money for it and just steeling themselves to do it, I think it will take some more time. But I will let you know as soon as they make the appointment, if Jo doesn't tell you first.
Oh good, you have met him :) I couldn't remember if it was him or Sonny you met. He is indeed a big sweetheart, a very mellow guy even before he started slowing down.
My only concern with them not doing the housecall is that my house is a 20 minute drive one-way from the clinic... with Deb we only did housecalls that were in NE and I wasn't sure if Nell and Preston had the same policy. I would hope they would make an exception for the Sherman-dog though... he is too big and painful to lift into the car now, really, and while he never got really freaked out at the vet it would still be nice for him to just hang out on his doggy bed in the living room without all the fuss of getting him up and into the car.
