Here, There, & Everywhere

Took Fatphin (pyrophin) to the airport today. That was about 90 miles. The weirdest thing happened at the Fletcher / Nebraska intersection. The cops were directing traffic a block around, due to a telephone pole having fallen (or been taken out by other means) and flattening the roof of a Toyota. The amusing part was that the Toyota was parked in the parking lot of the porn shop (this giant one, as such things go, called The Todd) located behind the run of telephone poles. So, it took about half an hour to go the block around that mess. Irritating and amusing at the same time.

Got home and took stock of the time, as well as what I had to do that day. So, I made a bunch of phone calls about the apartments I wanted to see. Weeded out a good 2/3rds of them because they were already rented, didn't answer the fucking phone, or they didn't call me back after I left a message. There were a few good prospects. I've got showings of two different places in Clearwater next Thursday (the next day off I have, irritatingly enough). It would be pretty sweet to be able to live out in that area... and a two bedroom would be cool. The nice part is it's only a little more than what I pay now (750 vs. 675) and it would solve so many problems at once for me.

After all the phone calls, I threw the package I had to ship to Aaron (ak111) into the car, as well as some crap I had to take to the Salvation Army to donate. Ran there, dropped that stuff off. Then, shipped the package, Then, had to pick some oil and an oil filter for the car. For the first time since I've owned this vehicle, I'm going to be more than 100 miles overdue for an oil change. In fact, I'll probably be close to 300 miles by my next day off. Situations like this are why I'm glad I have a synthetic blend in there. I'm going to try to take her in before I go to work on Friday, but it's so hard to get up that early before work.

I also got gas after I picked up the oil and filter. The prices have inched back up slightly from the low of $1.50/gal, but it was still less than $11 to fill my tank with 215 miles on it. I love my car. 35MPG average, even with a sizable amount of that being idling in traffic (the incident with the telephone pole). I'm going to baby this car as long as I can, for numbers like that.

Got the new jolly roger decals in the mail yesterday, and put them on the car today. The sheet magnets had come a few days back, so I was all set to do that as soon as I'd taken care of everything that had to be done before 5:00. I also applied my replacement "powered by infinite improbability drive" sticker to one of the leftover strips, and put it back on my bumper. I really missed having that one. I also have a replacement "time flies when you're having rum" sticker on order, as well as one today that I was finally annoyed into buying: "beeblebrox for president". I just had to do that, there are so many Obama bumper stickers all over the fucking place it's driving me insane to think how many people bought into the groupthink. I have to counter it with something that doesn't make me a target for vandalism (like a McCain/Palin sticker would).
