D.I.Y. - Destroy What Destroys You

Sep 28, 2008 04:33

I mentioned the problem with the stereo in my car, but I haven't mentioned the recurrence of the rust on some of the body panels, namely the rear fender and below the doors.

I know I'm going to have to do something about it at some point in the future, so I stopped at Home Depot on my way home from work the day before yesterday and picked up some spray-paint, both some primer and white rustolium, along with some sanding discs, some liquid fiberglass material intended for automotive use, and a bit for the sanding discs for my drill. At some point in the near future, I'm going to have to dedicate a day off to grinding the fuck out of the rust spots and repainting them before it gets too deep to excise by grinding / sanding. I'm pretty sure it's just a recurrence of surface rust brought on by the moisture I'm sure was trapped when my father and I did this before, last fall. With luck, this won't be too much of a project.

I realized as I was leaving Home Depot ($40 poorer) that I'd forgotten to pick up a set of safety goggles and a painter's mask (I don't want to inhale that shit). I'll just pick them up on Monday or Tuesday night, since that'll be a bit closer to when I'll be doing this anyway.

Looks like I've got my work cut out for me. I've never been much the DIY type, but when the options are limited, I'm not afraid to pick up the tools and have a stab at it, especially if it'll save some money. Who knows, if this goes well, I might just have a go at fucking with the stereo too.

Wish me luck.
