Link Dump!

Sep 27, 2008 04:04

I have a lot of links that I've been wanting to share here, both for my own personal record, and to share with whoever reads this. There's gotten to be quite a collection of them this time, so here goes.

First, there's this honest R&B song. I usually don't like hip-hip / R&B / Rap parodies, since I'm far from the biggest fan of the generes in the first place. But this one's self depreciating honesty really cracked me up. enjoy.

Fleeing shoplifter forgets son. Truly priceless, humanity at it's best.

Dolphin: 1, very surprised woman: 0. Okay, so this is old news (oxymoron though that phrase is) but I only heard about it recently, so I figured I'd share it.

A while back I read with rapt attention the wikipedia articles on OCD and OCPD. I'm not sure which of the two categories I fall in, but I definitely have strong traits in that direction. It's a really interesting read, at any rate.

How To Make a Water Gun Alarm Clock on youtube. Very cool idea, I wish I had the free time to make one for myself. I know that I sure as hell could use that kind of shock to wake up some mornings. Check out some of the other videos from Howcast, too. They have a bunch more nifty stuff, like How To Eat For Better Sexual Fitness, which is quite amusing.

Nipple rings fall foul of airport check. All I can say to this (...woman who claims she was ordered by federal airport screeners to remove her nipple rings with pliers...) is OUCH.

Apperently, there is a downside to the happy socialism modeled after the nations of the EU. Finally, I can feel a tiny bit of vindication as an American knowing that we're not banning kids from having fucking birthday cake!

Apparently, even God loves Conan O'Brien. And I thought I was a big fan. Damn. Better stalking a TV talk show host than raping the alter boys, though. So more power to him, I say.

Leningrad Cowboys & Red Army Choir perform Sweet Home Alabama. Very cool vid of a live performance. Give it a look, it's worth it.

Iomega Decides That ‘It’s Time’. About time that horse got shot. Frankly, I'm shocked that they limped along as long as thye did. They had some of the worst quality control in the removable media business. Yet people are shocked that they ended up in obscurity. Good riddance to them, say I!

Here's a delightful "WTF?!" from the world of IT. It's a 512MB CF card. Except it's for Cisco devices. Look at it's specs, and then the price, and tell me your jaw doesn't hit the floor.

An article on learning drugs as only Wired can present. The "side effect" of prison from using meth is quite the amusing touch. It's short on detail, but some of the information is really interesting.

I want this. I want it to have my fucking children. Eight LCD panels in sizes up to 32" apiece. In theory, my desktop / workstation could drive this display array, as I have four graphics cards each with dual outputs. Truly obscenely expensive (at $25,500 there's no other word for it), but I'd sell a kidney for that kind of a setup without batting an eye.

Hans Reiser did it. Not a surprise, but I felt this was an important enough occasion to be worthy of recording here.

EFP / Escort-Focus Performance. Website with a lot of good information about my car, including new and old EPA ratings for my model year (both of which I find I exceed on a regular basis). I linked to the page relevant to my model year, here's a link to the main page.

Gay marriage does not work - men are just too predatory, says Pete Burns. Something I've been saying for years finally has someone who'll back me up. Those of you that post articles whining about how gay marriage is opposed in this country to varying degrees take note.

One of many many reasons Nikola Tesla is my favorite scientist. The man was the most under-appreciated genius of the 19th and early 20th centuries. To this day, we still have no idea how he did many of the things he did back then.

Winter the dolphin gets a prosthetic tail. I'd been keeping tabs on Winter for a while before I'd heard of this, but I'm glad that someone was finally able to do something for her. I'll let you all know how she's doing firsthand as soon as I scrape up the funds to pay her a visit at CMA.

Classic Carlin video. The religion segment of the You Are All Diseased HBO special. A true classic.

Talcum Powder Can Provoke Deadly Ovarian Cancer I forget how I originally ran across this, but it struck a chord with me somehow... one of those rare cases where "for external use only" is strangely fitting.

Super Pii Pii Brothers. Japanese people are fucking nuts. 'Nuff said.

Slow Wave is always surreal (it's supposed to be) but I think this one is the strangest one by far.

Housten, the shitter's broke. Much ado was made about this in the popular press (it got air on the tonight show as the focus of a few gags). I know it certainly "cracked" me up at the time.

Some information on the "black AmEx" I mentioned having seen someone use at work some time back.

University Of Gallifrey hoodie for the Doctor Who ubernerd in your life. I know I want one.

Wonka's Fizzy Lifting Drinks (CHTV). aquachem will like this one (if he hasn't already seen it).

"Pay toilet" means something different in rural India.

Pulstar Pulse Plugs. I'm very interested in these. There's a lot of buzzwords, but the basic premise is surprisingly sound. Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury right now of spending $100 on a set of four ($25 each!) to find out if they deliver, and if so, how well.

Woman kills husband with folding couch. Why did it not surprise me to learn that this was in Russia? I don't know why, but it didn't. This will teach all you married guys to be careful... if you piss her off enough to end up sleeping on the couch, you might wake up dead.

A post replying to a discussion about mass transit on slashdot that mentions Centro (Syracuse and CNY's mass transit system). I used the Centro bus lines for three years, and I never knew that they'd won any sort of award for excellence. Far from it, I was always under the impression that it was horribly underfunded and badly in need of an overhaul. If that's what wins awards, it's no wonder the state of mass transit in the US is so piss-poor.

Another story that's unsurprisingly from Russia. Ravers lose sight at laser show. From the "do not look directly into laser with remaining eye" department.

From the "WTF?!" department, I give you the flying Ford Pinto.

Still rockin' after all these years, Mick Jagger defies years as he hits pension age. I had no idea he was worth $450 million. That's a lot, even by rockstar standards.

The $70,000 Swiss Army Knife. For the man who has everything, and more money than god to spend on it.

Slightly less expensive at $758.30 is the Wenger Swiss Army Knife Giant Multi-Tool. Claimed to be the largest Swiss Army Knife ever built, this 2lb behemoth contains 85 different tools. As the description says "what it does not have, you do not need.". I believe it.

I want one of these chalk outline beach towels. It'll keep people the hell away from me when I'm on the beach.

Red Bull drink lifts stroke risk. Well, we already knew it had to be bad for us somehow...

Twins, 8, invent 'wedgie-proof' underpants. Need I say more?

Students Are Always Half Right In Pittsburgh. This is the epitome of what's wrong with the American educational system. "No child left behind" means that we have to carry the stupid ones, and the bright students will lose motivation accordingly. Fucked up doesn't begin to cover it.

Last is the Alien Stand-Up Comic. I saw his brief appearance on the NBC show Last Comic Standing, and he was both very striking and extremely funny. Check out the videos, or better yet the "freak show" episode of LCS. They show more of his act, and the audio quality is a hell of a lot better than the youtube clips.

All right, I now return you to the regularly scheduled drivel that I normally post. Sorry for the length, but I wanted to make sure I got all the important stuff in here.

awesome stuff i want, stupid people, tech, news, car, dolphins, wtf?, funny, links
