KCL - Day 12: Una Mañana Terrible

Sep 25, 2008 10:00

Today started off terribly. I finally had my realy Spanish interview (turns out that I went to the wrong departmental interview -- the Spanish department does Hispanic Studies, while the Modern Language Centre actually teaches the language of Spanish).  Anyways, it went terribly, as my speaking skills have never been up to par with my listening, reading, and writing skills.  So at first she tried to put me in intermediate Spanish, but luckily I was able to argue my way up to advanced.  Still, it's a class I've already taken before, so I know the writing sections at least are going to be way below what I'm used to.  I was very upset, but I went off to my Victorian Lit class at 1.

I met up with my friend Stephen in my VicLit class, and he gave me a nice little pep talk about Spanish.  Basically, this is the only time I'll be able to go back and take an easier Spanish class in order to improve my speaking skills, since I've already taken it at home.  So if it's not going to transfer anyway, I should use this time to improve my speaking skills as much as possible, so that when I get home I'll be able to keep up in my harder classes.  This reasoning does seem to make me feel a little bit better about my position, so I think I'll work on increasing my fluency in speaking.

We headed back to KCH and had dinner.  Wilson (one of the senior students -- sort of like RAs) was running around plugging the movie of the night, which was Borat.  I wasn't hugely enthusiastic, but Elisa had never seen it, so we headed up to the Common Room to watch it.  Afterwards, Elisa and I hung out for a bit before heading off to bed.
