First round: Berwald vs Biff, let the staring contest begin.
WHO: Berwald, Olivier and Logan
WHEN: 8th July 2010, evening
WHERE: Berwald's jungle with a fence "garden".
WHAT: Gardens, demon koalas, and manly men.
Berwald had been putting off working on the garden. First because it had been too early, then he'd been busy with other things, such as making sure the house itself was habitable, and then...then it had seemed a bit too late. After all, gardens were supposed ti be worked on in the spring. Or was that autumn? Frankly, Berwald was a bit uncertain. Show him a dead tree, and he would regocnize right away the quality of the wood and what it could best be carved into, if anything...but live plants weren't his forte. His office had had a series of houseplants which had kept dying on Berwald, no matter how much he watered them. Once, out of boredom, he'd tried to talk to one...and it had died even faster.
As he stared at an almost impenetrable wall of...plant that was his garden, Berwald doubted he'd have such problems here. Instead, the problem would be getting thought it. He gave the gardening scissors in his hand a long look, then put them down and picked up an axe instead. After a moment more of hesitation, he raised it into an experimental swing...and froze, the axe dropping to the long grass at his feet with a soft thud.
Out of the leafery, a pair of piercing black eyes in a hairy face were staring at him. It took Berwald a moment to place the creature, from pictures and documentaries. A koala? What...and this didn't really look like the round, placid creatures Berwald had previously pictured koalas to be. There was something mean in the look it was giving him.
Startled, Berwald stared back with just as intimidating a look. The creature's hackles seemed to rise, but it didn't move, not even to blink. Berwald's eyes narrowed, but he could play this game too. They'd see who'd look away first!
