When Mei read Kim's comment on her blog, she promised to pry herself away from the computer in ten minutes. Ten minutes later, Mei's face was practically glued to the screen with a crumbled tissue in her fist as she read the long-awaited final chapter of a D. Gray-man's fanfiction. By the time she was finished with the last sentence, Mei was bawling like a little baby who was taken away from her mother at birth. She wiped her eyes, successfully smearing her eyeliner and mascara, and sniffled with her hand over her chest. She quickly typed a long review of gratitude and awe for the writer and clicked Submit ( ... )

Oh boy... Not Mei's Grandmother. Kim could barely even speak before the old woman spoke. In Mandarin. Sure, Kim respected their language, but it was just too hard for her to learn, and she honestly didn't want to. Mei had been her best friend since they were ten years old, and they'd never learned each other's languages. Which they were completely ok with.

Kim felt that as long as people didn't wanna learn her language, why learn theirs?

The door was almost slammed shut before she put a hand on it, and spoke. In English. The temptation to speak in Vietnamese was there, but she stopped herself for now.

" Sorry, but I promised Mei I'd come over today." she said, giving the ol woman a challenging look. Mui-Ting was a charming old lady, but a pain in the ass sometimes.

Once again, it was not that Grandmamma Mui-Ting did not like Kim; she really just didn't like people in her house. They were always loud and annoying and obnoxious and giggling and got in the way of her old Chinese opera. When Kim stuck her hand through the door gap, Mui-Ting regretted not pulling the door close as hard as she could to break the Vietnamese girl's hand off.

"Mei changing in room," she said in broken English.

Mui-Ting had been in the States long enough to understand English even though she couldn't realy speak it herself. She snarled at Kim and backed up. It almost looked like she wanted to whack Kim with her cane. She left the door open and retreated back to her spot on the couch. She picked up the remote control and turned up the volume, already anticipating that the young women would be loud.

"妹妹," Mui-Ting hollered, "您的朋友來啊. 粗魯那個."

Mui-Ting sat back in her chair then and stared at Kim's direction.

*Meimei, your friend is here. The rude one.

Kim knew the woman didn't like people in her house. But one, she wasn't a loud and giddy high school girl who had to speak loudly every chance she got, and two, she was Mei's best friend since elementary school. The old woman should learn to accept that soon. Preferably before it was time to put her in the grave.

She sighed a bit, took her shoes off and went upstairs, looking for Mei and ignoring the old woman's cold stare.
" Mei?" she called softly, before finding the girl in the bathroom.
"...... Are you kidding me?" she said, seeing the girl freshen up.

I don't think that's true... meiume May 9 2010, 04:31:26 UTC
Mei was in the bathroom the whole time while her best friend battled with her grandmamma. It wasn't like she didn't know that her grandmamma would give Kim troubles, but the old woman always allowed Kim in the house anyways so there was really no reason to be alarmed. She took her time reapplying her make-up that she was caught off-guard by Kim's sudden entry. She almost poked her eye out with the eyeliner pencil.

"Did she hit you with her cane?" Mei asked as she rubbed her eye, once again ruining her eye make-up. She put down the pencil and washed her hands quickly in the sink. "I swear I heard her yelling at you."

She pushed her hair off her shoulders and smiled at Kim. It was their first meeting for months and they needed to do it right. There needed to be a proper moment for each other to register that it was not a dream and that they were really together again at last.

"I've missed you, Kimmy," Mei said, somber and solemn.

" No, she didn't hit me, but I'm sure she wanted to. The look in her eyes can freeze the devil himself." Kim remarked with a little sigh.

At least now they were together again. It made her smile, and she pulled Mei in for a hug. No way was she letting her off a hug. It felt nice hugging her best friend again after almost half a year of not seeing her.

" I missed you too, Meimei." she said, happy to use that little petname she'd given her when they were kids.

"Oh trust me," Mei smirked, "Grandmamma can kick the Devil's ass if she wanted to. You are lucky you have never seen her actually mad."

Mei shrugged her shoulders in cutely and relished in the hug. The last hug she had gotten was from her dad at the funeral and it was one of those awkward half-hug. It was weird and Mei didn't like it. Besides, no one could hug as good as Kimmy could, and Mei was trying to soak in all the warmth before they had to part. Because they would have to, eventually, or else people would think they were... you know. Not that she didn't like Kim or something, but her heart solely belonged to a Japanese man that had disappeared for ages.

Breaking away from the hug, Mei put her hands on Kim's shoulders and turned her around so they would be in the room instead of the bathroom. She sat Kim down on the bed and climbed on it herself.

"So, what's the agenda? What's new with you? I want to hear every single detail."

Every single detail, huh? Kim curled up on the bed, resting her chin on her knees and looking at Mei. It was so nice to have her home again, she just had to enjoy that fact a bit, happy it wasn't just a good dream.

What was new? Oh, nothing except getting new friends, getting a new job, restarted on her piano lessons...... gotten a crush on someone who was not Yao.

All this Kim told her. Might as well tell her, cause Mei had this weird ability of finding out things she did NOT tell her.

Mei didn't need to watch a K-drama when she had Kim. She latched on to every word that spilled out of Kim's mouth, pressing for more details here, asking her to clarify there, gasping and giggling at the various adventures she had missed out on. As she listened to Kim, she remembered why she had wanted to come back to Liberty so badly; the town was strange but there was a dull moment. Even though Kiku wasn't here anymore, Mei still cherished the other aspects of it ( ... )

All the questions made Kim's brain sorta implode. Too many at once, but she knew it would happen. Mei was so curious, and the only one she'd probably ever tell anyway.

" Wha?? Why would you think it's Yong Soo? That's just..... It's like asking someone if they wanna date their brother." she said, feeling her face heat up. Yong Soo... Hah. As if. She'd rather date her biology teacher from high school. Who was a total idiot.

" No, it's not him." she said finally, and leaned against the wall.
" And he's not a fashion major. He's in English at LU. You've probably seen him there sometime. I met him last summer at some beach party." Kim tried remembering the other questions. What was it about Mei that made her just tell the girl everything?

" You know me, Mei.... I never tell people anything. Except you. So he doesn't know. But he's a good friend."

"I don't know! For some reason, his name was the first one that popped into my head. No, it can't be Yong-Soo, he is too stupid for someone like you. You deserve much better than him." Mei could have gone on about why the Korean was hardly a good choice for Kim but she held her tongue and left her friend explain.

She nodded, excited, as Kim gave her a few details about this mystery crush. But even after all that, she still didn't had a clue who it was.

"Let's see. I don't know any English major... and you met him at a beach party. Wait, there was a beach party? Why wasn't I invited? Anyways. Who is he? Why are you keeping it a secret? Oh, 天啊... Is he ( ... )

" I'd be most likely to kick him than kiss him anyway." Kim said, referring to Yong Soo. She adored the boy, but not in THAT way.

" It was a random beach party." she explained. " But I didn't start liking him right away. It just happened later."

Oh man, she was telling everything. It was just so easy to tell Mei stuff, it came naturally unlike with other people. Plus it was kinda funny when Mei got all dramatic about things.

" I don't know if you know him..... His name is Toris." she said. Wow.... It actually felt good saying it out loud....

PHO. PHO. PHOOOOO. meiume May 9 2010, 12:46:19 UTC
Mei resisted the urge to go off topic and asked about the beach party that she missed. She didn't attend a lot of parties even though she was in college because her family would never let her go to a place where she could potentially be murdered and if they ever found out she was drinking underage with 'bad' people, her family would kill her. Probably literally.

But this wasn't about her. It was about Kim.

"Toris... Toris... Toris what? What's his name? Does he have a Facebook? Or a Myspace? Oh, what about a blog? Do you have a picture of him?" Mei clapped her hand together and gasped. "You have to show me what he looks like."

With that, Mei leaped off the bed and sat down at her desk. She closed the tabs of the fanfiction and doujinshi download site, and switched to the blogsite.

"What is his username? Oh, nevermind, I'll just search through your friend's list. Toris... Toris..."

Oh, all those questions. Kim felt like dying for a minute, and blinked when Mei suddenly bounced off to the computer. Oh God....

" U-uhmm...." her face was red. Why was it red? It shouldn't be red! Mei was always going on about Kiku, so why should she feel embarrassed about her own crush?

It wasn't like she went off about Yao back then though... She'd just told Mei and that was it, while silently admiring the Chinese man from a distance as they slowly became friends through the years.

It probably didn't take long for Mei to find his profile. And yeah, there he was. The brown hair and those green eyes and a nice smile on the profile picture.

Kim sighed a bit, but didn't go all dreamy yet.

" Y-yeah, that's him." she said. " He's European."

It sorta made her wonder what her mother would say if they ever got together and Toris met her. Of course, Kim didn't even know if he likes her back so.... H-hah.... Considering her mother wanted her to find a handsome and smart Asian man. Well, Toris was smart too! And handsome!

And very cute~

It did not take long to find Toris' blog through Kim's friend list. The first thing Mei did was click on the profile picture and took a closer look at Kim's crush. Toris was a good-looking man and just from his smile and eyes, Mei knew that he was a good person and could never hurt Kim in any way. Mei could have given Kim her blessing and devised a plan to help her best friend if it wasn't for one thing.

She almost scooted back and fell out of her chair. It did not take long to register and Kim's reaffirmation of "He's European" said it all.

Like there was a ghost climbing out of her computer screen, Mei kept scooting her chair back until it hit the bed and she was gawking at the screen. She looked at Kim with a horrified look on her face.

"Kimmy... He... He... He is... white!"

That reaction was something Kim hadn't foreseen. The look on Mei's face would've made her laugh in any other situation, but not this one.

" I know he is. So what? What's wrong with that?" she asked, folding her arms and giving Mei a stern look. Skin color shouldn't matter on someone you liked!
