Tonight, I experiment with XP 64-bit on this here laptop. Vista has way too many problems (Visual Studio 2005 not working, random audio dropouts, taking nearly 2 minutes to hibernate, not sleeping properly, and many more besides) to continue working with it.

Well - I now know why my Windows installation imploded last week. My hard drive was failing.

It's just gone terminal. I'm completely Mac based until I can get a replacement.

This is also the last time I buy a Maxtor hard drive. This one lasted the grand total of 4 months, and the other 80GB IDE in the USB2 box is also a bit cranky at times. YAY

I think the SATA controller on this mainboard is borked. It's now not finding the HDD after another Windows STOP error on a brand-new installation...

Well - Windows eventually imploded earlier. Kept telling me that one of the system folders was missing. So, on trying to install 'over-the-top' of it, it refused to copy a file from the WinXP CD about 2 - 3% into the file copy... and it did this a number of times. So, when Windows made a stop error last night, it proceeded to make Azureus DESTROY ALL MY FUCKING DOWNLOADS.

Greeeeeeat. Just brilliant.
