Dragon*Con this past weekend was a wholly fun experience. The trip to and from was thankfully uneventful. We stayed in the Westin, a few blocks away from the three main hotels of the con. Thursday we tried to get registered but they had closed registration early that day because the line was too long. We ended up wandering around a bit to get our bearings before heading to bed. Friday morning we were up early to stand in line for registration, which stretched almost all the way around the Hyatt.
The chaos was sufficiently organized and I was impressed during the entire weekend how well the volunteers kept things moving.
After registration it was time to embark on the most intense photo-taking safari yet. There were costumes everywhere. Of course there were duplicates of some of the more popular characters. Lots of the requisite Darth Vader, Stormtroopers, and Slave Leias. But there were also tons of Jokers (male and female), Tony Starks, Jack Sparrows and every tenth person had a knitted Jane hat.
Here is Char in her steampunk mechanic costume
My favorites are the more fun/original/inventive ones.
I really liked this costume. Very well done. It's the first boss in Manhunt 2 (though I can't find the character's name anywhere). The woman underneath was very pleasant and not at all like the serial killer she was portraying.
Very well done Two-Face
A spot-on Luna Lovegood
The most amazing costume was a little kid that was in a tank that transformed into a robot when he stood up. Still photos don't do it justice.
I really liked how the lighting came out on this one
Assassins in the shadows
An awesome Mr. Freeze
These vampires were very cool
These made me laugh out loud
The convicts from Hancock with one head up the other's rear
Giggity giggity!
Reno 911
Ace and Gary ready to fly
Buddy Christ was a blessing
Just a few of the crazy 88s
Headcrabs from Half-Life 2
And then there were the famous people
Matthew Lewis aka Nevill Longbottom from Harry Potter. Really nice guy. We chatted about how the weather was different thatn what he's used to in England. He commented that everyone there was really nice.
Adam West riding in the Batmobile
George Lowe (the voice of Space Ghost)
Alan Tudyk
Nathan Fillion
Erick Avari, Jewel Staite and Morena Baccarin

Out of the 2120 photos I took, I only posted about 400.
Tuesday was all about getting home. I missed my bed and pillows and kitties and shower.
