Dec 22, 2011 16:20

A patch release has just been put out. It fixes a few of the major problems with expanding threads and other AJAX-y style problems with the new commenting form. We also wanted to let you know about the tickets that have already been filed regarding the commenting form (so you can see if problems you're seeing have already been reported or not) and ( Read more... )

We will be making an S2 commenting style that mimics the display of the original/previous S1 commenting pages. This new style will retain the ability to use/display comment subject lines.

I'm guessing this means there will eventually only be one style that supports subject lines? And it'll look like the old default page. They're obviously not going to roll back the changes for S1, at least.

I'm worried that subject lines will be swept under the rug, as the price to keep them will be to use an as-of-yet-not-even-existing style. It just doesn't sound very promising to me.

Also, I remain amused how they throw around terms like 'S1' and 'S2' styles re: comment pages, when NOT ONE OF THOSE PAGES had or has a handy 'Hey, I'm S#!' sign on them. I guess I can always take up mindreading in my spare time, not that it has worked so far...

I was really confused about S1/S2, as well. I think most if not all journal styles currently offered as a standard are S2, but obviously the default commenting page so many comms (and quite a few individual users, as well) was S1.

I really hope they'll come through on that S2-style commenting page - it's been said by several people, now, so I'm not entirely cynical. I just hope they won't get changed, after all, when/if the S2-style comment pages get overhauled, as well.

Note that comments can be edited by the author up until the point the comment is replied to by another user.

You mean the comment where the useful person tells you that your html is messed up? :-P

Will you people stop doing that? The management might give us a like button next and change their mind about fixing anything!

See, back in the day, you could put a little thumbs up hand in the subject field...

By "hatefest" you mean a predictable reaction to poor customer service.

Customers will be hostile when a site introduces a bug filled change with no advance notice or attempt to seek user feedback beforehand. Worse, over the holidays when fixes are slow to come and people have more time to use a service and be annoyed.

EVERYONE CHECK THE PAYMENT STATUS OF YOUR ACCOUNT.

Some users found that, even after turning off automatic payments, they had been turned back on!
