I've been posting on Livejournal since August 6, 2003. That's nearly 19 years and considering that Livejournal has only been around for 23 years, that's most of its life span. In that time, I've accumulated the following:
2,843 journal entries
38,229 comments posted
36,913 comments received
32 tags
55 memories
1,748 photos
8 virtual LJ gifts
206 userpics
125 LJ friends
This makes journal entry 2,844 ...and the last one here. Over the years, from its heyday in the early 2000s to now, I've made a lot of friends, both on Livejournal and in the greater blogging community. I've met many of those friends in person and still consider some of them close friends, whether we have met in real life or not. But no one is really blogging anymore. My friends feed is filled with RSS links to sites I followed, but only rarely are there actual posts from actual people. I miss the community, I miss following along on other people's adventures, and I miss the camaraderie engendered by all of us out here in the innernets commenting on each other's posts and lives, and caring about what we were up to. I miss all the really great writing out there.
After realizing that my non-LJ friends and family couldn't post comments anonymously, and the further realization that LJ probably isn't going to do anything about it, and the fact that I lost my customized theme completely trying to figure out what was going on, and then talking to my friend Russell who is much, much more tech-savvy and tech-trend-savvy, it felt like now was the time to move on. In addition, Livejournal is owned by a Russian company. I don't really want to be a part of that anymore.
Russell helped import my entire Livejournal over to Wordpress, and I found a theme and he helped me customize it. It's still a work-in-progress, but posts work and that is where I'll be writing from now on. I may be the last personal blogger standing, but I don't care. I'm happy to continue writing for posterity, for myself, and for anyone who cares to read and comment. My LJ will remain in place for now, but I suspect I'll be completely closing it down at some point.
