escapism

mesmerised by two things right now - murakami's words and musicboi's songs. they both result in the same indescribable feeling of being simultaneously overwhelmed by rampant and raw thoughts/emotions and yet articulated with immense restraint and elegance. i could read murakami's books over and over again, they are so evocative. wonderfully weird, if you will. there are lines that i want to highlight. i feel compelled to analyse and study his entire collection - as if that will explain some things in the world for me. his words string together to be sad, contemplative, funny, observant all at once. characters come and go just like people in our lives. i love his obsession with not naming things, with placing an inordinate amount of importance on ordinary daily things, with hotel rooms, cats, isolated locations, mysterious characters who know more than you do, and the constant sense that you're teetering on the brink of insanity.

well. tomorrow i leave this bubble-wrapped world. need to run errands and start preparation for work. think it'll be good for me.

went for dinner with Slim and her boi, and 'Martha'. think i've reached the point with 'Martha' that as Rowena said - let them amuse you instead of irritating you. actually tonight, i felt kind of sad for her. it'd be unlikely for me to go to such a dinner where i know i'd feel so left out. but maybe it's just different expectations that we all hold. i've got wonderful friends, i know that. but still, sometimes, it feels like it's all superficial and glossed over. static-y. something like everyone has tuned in to 103 Mhz, but only a couple are tuned in to the exact 103.3 Mhz that i'm tuned into. however, i don't think i can beat 'martha' in turning people off. we had just sat down to dinner. she clarified later that she wanted to know if they were living under the same roof. but her exact question was, "so, are you guys copulating now?"

*bangs forehead*

We're just having dinner, thanks.
