Notes: Super late blablabla. Be thankful I had a nightmare yesterday and couldn't sleep and had to bring my comp to school to finish my work.
The boy is all grown up, now, and Giovanni can't not be proud of how.
They might not notice it, might all try to ignore it or forget it, close their eyes to it, but Red has grown with him, against him, his shape molded by both conflict and collaboration. The way he thinks, the way he fights. The only thing truly his is his body, and even that bears the scars of battle.
Not that the change was unilateral. Giovanni knows he has been changed, too, but he was never opposed to that. Change and learn and survive another day so you can rise again. It has served him countless years, has brought him to the top, and pulled him back from the rubble, has kept him alive when his body wanted him dead, has reunited him with his son. And Red has a flame to him that keeps even the faintest hope glowing.
Giovanni's determination is much stronger than a glow.
The boy has grown to his image, both mirror and foil, his identity inextricable from his, and Giovanni doesn't plan on letting him get out of his reach.
(Not that he thinks Red would want to.)
