(I started this last night, then ran out of time! Expect a Yuletide post and a general end of year post soon.)
In 2015, I completed my Get Your Words Out pledge for 150,000 words. On December 24, I hit 150,092 words and decided to give my brain a much-needed break after NaNo and Yuletide.
Month-by-month word count totals
January: 4,081
February: 2,416
March: 4,541
April: 2,561
May: 1,703
June: 15,164
July: 6,690
August: 11,179
September: 15,059
October: 18,640
November: 51,019
December: 17,039
TOTAL: 150,092
Overall, I found GYWO a positive experience, with one important caveat: it could not make up for a job that drained me mentally and physically. Halfway through the year, I was one-fifth done with my pledge. I needed the month of July just to detox. When I started Current Job, my renewed energy, productivity, and trust in myself carried over into my writing. The spreadsheet went from another excuse to feel bad about myself to a helpful tracking tool. Brains: very strange things!
I pledged 150,000 words again for 2016. I'm hoping to blow that total out of the water, but sticking to a number that I can manage even while slogging through one of the hardest years of my adult life makes me feel confident about my chances of success. Here's to another year in writing!
