Supernatural: Season 1, episode 1

Jan 09, 2012 20:56

I finally did it. I took the plunge and bought the first three seasons of Supernatural. So, let's see if I like it as much as my flist. No spoiling me, but if you want, you're welcome to tell me what you thought about episode one. My thoughts (written as I watched) are below the cut.

I'm going to be so excited if you start writing spn fics!
I love this show so much because of all the delicious angst, so yeah, angst-o-rama on the way. That's doesn't count as a spoiler, lol!
Enjoy the rest of it!

Right now, I'm just happy to watch, but I have to say that the angst factor was high enough in just the pilot that I totally expected that. Looking back, my notes don't make that much sense, which means the story must have been good because it kept me too distracted to write.

Wicked Chuckle, two season ago, I started at the beginning, walked around bleary eyed, and pale as I literally gulped down the series. The first several seasons are the best but even so, these two are fascinating, irritating, and sexy as hell. :D -SB

I can't afford to gulp the series with work and classes, but I can certainly feel the temptation.

Nooo another unsuspecting victim has been lured under the spell that is SPN. I think I'm the only one who watches the show simply because I want to keep up with what my flist likes to watch. Too many have fallen under the spell of the hotness of the two guys (BTW you have heard of Wincest?). The show bothers me partly because I knew of Jensen Ackles back when he was on "Days of Our Lives" and considered him too pretty though he has matured over the years. The invented AU is far too reliant on the Bible and Christianity for my tastes. Finally there is a strain of misogyny that runs through the series - so many women are evil and the good ones tend to suffer the fate of heroines of yesteryear...that is they're killed off often even though their deaths are not necessarily required by the plot.

OTOH it may give your muse fresh inspiration and maybe we'll see some fanfic coming out of it, possibly BtVS crossovers *fingers crossed*

I know nothing about the show. I have heard of Wincest, and I think that sent me running away from the show faster than anything. Trust me, I will not be writing that.

I don't think the boys are too "pretty," but hoenstly, right now I'm far more interested in how fucked up they are than I am in how they look. Trust me, if I write, I think that's what I'll be focusing on. And after one episode, I have to admit that siccing Spike on them seems like a rather amusing way to spend an afternood.

That comment made me laugh out loud, because there is an episode later that deals with vampires and it's not too special, except if I remember right there is one of the BtVS cast playing a vampire. That was epic.

OMg. I am so excited for you to start watching this show. I've seen them all and loved them all and reading someone's totally new and unbiased reactions to the story and the BOYS is going to be AWESOME!!!

Have fun. It's one hellish ride. ;)

Looking back, my reactions were so scattered that I wasn't sure anyone could even follow them (at least not without pulling the DVD out to try and make sense of it). However, I did enjoy just saying whatever I thought as I watched.

Yay, I am so squeeing right now, that you're watching my fave show! Okay, so I've complained lately about the quality in the latter seasons, but I still SO LOVE the first few seasons of this show, and I love Sam and Dean like burning, sigh, flaws and all. In my life there have been only a handful of shows that have really grabbed me from the start (and this will reveal how OLD I am, sigh!)--classic Trek (cheesy as hell but my first real fandom), Starsky and Hutch, The X Files, and Supernatural. So I really look forward to your reviews of each episode; at least I dearly hope you will continue with these, as I always adore hearing a new fan's take on the show. I've been in it almost from the first, and it's great to get a fresh perspective on it now that we're in season 7, yeesh! It's almost like that first blush of love all over again, reliving the eps through a new fan's eyes.

Yes! This! I love the early seasons, and reading/watching while someone experiences them for the first time is like being there again. <3

I wasn't sure anyone would care to hear my ramblings, but if y'all stick around, I'll be talking up a storm.

I have had a couple of people tell me that I'll be disappointed later, but you know, when I love the characters and hate the plot, that's often the very best fanfic fodder, so I'm not too worried about that. If the series can stand up with classics like ST:TOS and S&H, I'm looking forward to the ride.
