Am not so patiently waiting for tonight's replay of Friday's episode of Battlestar Galactica. Who would've thought that the remake of a campy early '80s, post Star Wars scifi series would be so enthralling?
Ran away from home for a little while today. Only about an hour. I bought myself dinner and wandered around the bookstore and bemoaned the lack of good fantasy novels in the world. Fantasy novels are my comfort food, I've been reading them my entire life and actually prefer them to most fiction or non-fiction books when I'm in the mood for some nice, satisfying entertainment-like reading. The problem is that so much of what's on the bookshelves is just so bad, like the bastard children of Tolkien created on steroids and sustaining themselves on crack and nearly as traumatizing as my allegory just was.
Recently I read The Midnight Work by Kassandra Sims which I found in the Romance section. Tandem: I don't usually go into that section when I don't have my friend Erin telling me what to look for because the quality of those books tends to be kinda iffy but this was apparently a book written by a fellow lj-ing fangirl type so I just had to check it out. It's a fun book cheeky and fun with a heroine who understands completely how weird her situation is and is much more modern (in a good way) then most romance heroines. She also has a best friend with whom she shares the kinds of conversations that are so reminiscent to ones I've had recently with certain parties that I couldn't help but laugh. It was a good, fun read and definitely worth the price of admission.
I also read The Charnel Prince by Greg Keyes, a fantasy novel that doesn't make my brain hurt. Great characters, great plot with some extremly satisfying moments. People who are as overwhelmed by George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series as I am but still love a good complex novel with political intrigue and derring do should find a lot to enjoy in Keyes' books. Another one definitely worth the price of admission.
I just spent some time categorizing and organizing my icons as I have nearly 70 and was beginning to get confused. Of course, I was then dismayed to be visually reminded of how when you rename your icons they no longer show up in old updates/comments. How aggravating. But aren't my new icons pretty? *points at current example*
Have been watching some season 1 Farscape. OMG I love that show sooo much. How could I forget how hot and yet absolutely adorable Crichton is? He's like Adonis and, well, Wash rolled into one. Wow, I adore him, practically the perfect man. It is so sad that Ben Browder has been condemned to the cast of Stargate: SG-1 because that is a boring, boring show that I can't even bring myself to watch for Ben's sake. Must buy more Farscape ...
