With trade week more or less done with a new era has begun at the lions with renewals and possible new editions.

Daniel Bradshaw has put any speculation of a move to Melbourne to rest, agreeing to a new three-year contract with the Brisbane Lions. Bradshaw, who turns 28 next month, will remain with the Lions until the end of 2009.
Bradshaw enjoyed his most consistent season this year and was one of the Club’s shining lights in an otherwise disappointing season. He played every game in 2006 and led the Club in marks (158) and goals (59).
His commitment to the Lions is wonderful news for the Club, who will be looking to secure the signatures of some of his team mates in the coming weeks.

Ruck duo Beau McDonald and Cameron Wood have both agreed to new contracts with the Brisbane Lions.
McDonald (203cm) and Wood (204cm), the two tallest players at the Lions, will both play important roles in the ruck division in 2007 and beyond.
McDonald has overcome two knee reconstructions which kept him sidelined for the better half of three years. He made his much anticipated return in round 5 this season against the West Coast Eagles, and played a total of eight consecutive matches before succumbing to a hamstring injury.
A two-time Premiership player, McDonald will be hoping for a change of fortune with injury that has seen him play only 83 matches since debuting with the Club in 1998.Following the departure of Lions Premiership ruckman Clark Keating, both McDonald and Wood will have greater opportunities to shoulder the ruck duties with Jamie Charman.

The official terms involving Jason Akermanis’ trade to the Western Bulldogs were today finalised between the Brisbane Lions and the Bulldogs.
With the trade period nearing close at 2pm today, the agreement that was struck earlier in the week between the Lions and the Bulldogs was formalised and submitted to the AFL.
In return for Akermanis, the Lions will receive the Bulldogs’ draft selection No.34 in November’s National Draft.
As part of the deal, the Lions will not be required to contribute towards Akermanis’ salary in 2007, with the Bulldogs agreeing to honour his contract in full. This has allowed the Lions to successfully negotiate new contracts for some of the current players that have been pursued by other clubs.
Pleased with the outcome, the Brisbane Lions are now looking forward to what many consider to be a ‘Super Draft’ in November, where they will have picks 4, 22, 34, 40, 58 and 76.
Akermanis, who nominated the Bulldogs as his Club of choice in September, will undoubtedly be a valued addition down at Whitten Oval.
One of the AFL’s most decorated players, Akermanis is a three-time Premiership player, three-time All Australian, two-time Club Best and Fairest (Merrett-Murray Medal), a Brownlow Medallist, Jim Stynes Medallist and State representative.
An integral member of the Lions Premiership successes in 2001-02-03, Akermanis played a total of 248 games with the Lions for 307 goals.
