Retired Brisbane Lions champion Michael Voss was today added to the Australian International Rules squad to play Ireland later this month.

Australian coach, Kevin Sheedy revealed this morning that Voss would take part in the hybrid game for the first time in his illustrious career. Sheedy, speaking with sports radio network SEN, commented that the triple-premiership captain will be an asset to the group.

“Two things come into play. One was we thought it would be great to have Michael Voss involved in International Rules at the end of his career for the future of whether he would like to be involved as a selector or a coach in the next decade” Sheedy said.

“He will go to Ireland, and I’m happy with that”.

Voss isn't the only  Lions player chosen to play in the international games between Australia and Ireland.  Less than a week after being runner-up in the Brisbane Lions Club Champion award, Justin Sherman has been selected in the 24-man squad for the 2006 Foster’s Australian International Rules Team.  Also going is  Lions rookie Colm Begley selected to play for the Irish. Irish export Begley, who was rookie listed by the Club for the 2006 season, made his debut for the Lions in round 20 against the West Coast Eagles.
