TVD "1912" - My addiction to the Salvatore Brothers

Hello F-List,

This would the post where I share my love for the wonderful Salvatore brothers.  After re-watching the first 8 episodes of this season, I have a new appreciation for the arc the brothers are on.  It's so great that the seeds that were planted in the early episodes are starting to come to fruition!

I was so happy to have Damon mocking Stefan and Stefan allowing himself to get involved on my screen.  Their unique way of communicating is interesting and entertaining.  Using Stefan's journal as the transition to the flashback was good.

Stefan's face lighting up when he sees Damon shows just how much he misses and loves his brother.  Both Ian and Paul played that initial flashback scene so well.  The layers of subtext showed through just enough showing the bond that was still there despite an almost 50 year separation and seemingly 'irreparable odds'.

The transition back to present day using drinking as their bonding activity was lovely.  Stefan trying to figure out Damon's true motives and Damon wanting to help Stefan will never get old as far as I'm concerned.

"...so I'm thinking, now's a good time to pay our old friend Moderation a visit."  The way Damon phrases things is just all kinds of enjoyable :)

Another great transition to flashback with Damon downing his booze directly from the bottle.  This flashback showed a pivotal bit of Stefan offering to teach Damon how to survive on his diet.  I'm sure this played on Damon's later regret at his part in getting Stefan to feed on human blood and ultimately giving rise to Stefan's ripper persona.

I was very happy to hear Damon describing Katherine as "the woman I was in love with", showing that those feelings are firmly in his past.  Then my heart was aching for 1912!Damon when he primly says, "I am spoken for."

Damon's plan to help Stefan was brilliantly set up.  He knows his brother so well, that he quickly came up with the easiest way to get Stefan to take that first bite and be there to pull him off.  Stefan's expression when he sees Elena was just perfect.  I felt his pain through and through.

Stefan staring at the fire touched me as well, and Damon actually giving him positive reinforcement melted my heart a little.  Then Damon calling Stefan out on pretending to 'flip the switch' shows that he wants this process to be real and work for the long haul.

Another great Damon quote:  "There is a road called Recovery and we are on it."

The final flashback scene was an excellent backdrop to the part of the episode that I found the most emotionally gripping.  Damon genuinely feels remorse now for watching his brother go over the edge and not doing anything to stop him, for letting him walk away.  GAH!  Damon has made so much progress.  I love and adore him so freaking much!!

Damon:  By the decades end, they were calling you the Ripper of Monterrey.  I let you walk away.  I watched you go over the edge and I didn't do anything to stop you.
Stefan:  You couldn't have.
Damon:  Sure I could have but I just didn't want to.  But I want to now.  Whenever you go too far, I will be there to pull you back.  Every second of every day 'till you don't need me.
Stefan:  Why?
Damon:  Because right now, you're all I've got.

This was just such a powerful, wonderful moment for these brothers.  They both still have lots of baggage but they're finally finding a way to heal the breach between them.  It will be a slow, drawn out process but I'm just so pleased that they are heading down this path!!  I can't wait to see where it will take them.

In short, I love their push & pull, how well they know each other, how some things never change between them but other things do, and how they are finding camaraderie in the fact that they're both in love with the same woman, again.  The bond between them makes the triangle more interesting to me.  While I am a confirmed DE shipper, I also maintain that that can only happen in a way that allows the brother's relationship to flourish as well.
