I wonder how Hispanophones write (with a pen on paper) the reverse exclamation mark (¡): from top to bottom (as the 'i' character) or from bottom to top?

How do you say that something belongs to you or that you own something? I've been very curious about this, because I've noticed that I say "I've got that book" or "I haven't got any of that," while most people I know say would be equally likely to say "I have a cat" or "I've got a cat." But they would always say "I don't have that."

I recently came across an interesting book that devoted a chapter to the impact of language on learning math. It didn't come as a surprise to me that the author slated Chinese (and other Asian) students as having a natural advantage in math, because of the language they learn it in.

In my linguistics class we're talking about sentence constituents, and we've been told that if a set of words passes even one constituency test, it is a constituent.
