Bag o' meat

So, today was the departmental party.  It was held at steve's house again.  And again, I somehow showed up first...though I purposely had my ride pick me up late, but apparently it wasn't late enough.  That's okay, I ended up drinking one more beer than everyone else.  I am such a lush and alcoholic.  A terrible thing, to be both.

I asked Apu (pronouced Opu) if he played any sports...he said lots.  Then I got him to list them...they were: cricket (not a sport), soccor (jokingly not a sport), table tennis (not a sport), champion 200 meter sprint (a sport) and cockfighting (not sure if that's a sport or not).  He explained that cockfighting is when you stand on one foot, and hold both arms behing your back and you and the other person (or group of people) stand in a ring and knock shoulders trying to push people out.  Tamara and I tried...i hopped towards her, and apparently I was so intimidating that all she could do was hope backwards away from me.  I didn't know what was going on!  All I was going to do was gently nock into her shoulder.  I can't wait for Josh to get back so I can try it for real.  It seems really fun.

I told Calvin and Guil this story:  I printed a bunch of stuff out for our research meeting and started reading it.  Everything I was reading was amazing and exactly about my research, I couldn't believe I hadn't read it  before and couldn't wait to really get into it and analyze it and see how I could relate it to what I am doing.  I finally was able to tear my eyes away from the text to see what the paper was called.  Turns out it was my own abstract (a one page summery of my research).

When we were leaving the party, we all took bags of left over bbq pork and beef home.   Somehow I lost my bag of meat I was saving for Josh.  So I had to email my professor and ask him to bring me my bag of meat to school if he found it.  I hope it isn't laying out in his driveway soaking up heat and sun getting all discusting!!!!

I also made peanut butter cookies for the party....when i Ayla picked me up to leave, we realized that she too made peanut butter cookies.  I made my own peanut butter (which is NOT impressive...you just put peanuts in a food proccessor and let it go to town) but I used stale peanuts.  The peanut buttter then tasted stale, but I continued to put in the cookies...and in turn they tasted sorta stale...and still I brought them to the party.  Luckly Danny brought super gooey undercooked brownies which tasted delishous ontop of stale tasting yet fresh peanut butter cookies.

I think that last sentence sums up our department and my life somehow.  Somehow it's perfect.

Deb, from Jersey, and I went on a 4.5 hour hike today.  It wasn't supposed to be that long, but we got lost.  That whole story deserves an entry to itself, and I don't quite feel like explaining it to you.  I'll just make a list...you can fill in the blanks.

1.  cross country runners...millions of them
2.  the cleanest most best HORRIBLY DIRTY porta johns possible.... the only real flaw they had was the lack of TP
3.  The kid cutting in line at the porta john but not actually going bc there was no TP
4.  Hitting multiple dead ends
5.  The candy cane connector trail
6.  Being told, twice, an hours distance apart that the fastest way back was to go they way we came.  The second time we had been hiking 2 hours in a large 5 mile loop, there was NO way the way back was fast... I knew deep inside myself that we had gone way more than half way.  Turns out we started in the back not the front of the trail.  Confused peopel.
7.  People giving directions that don't really know what they are saying or giving directions to
8.  People knowing where we want to go, but giving us bad directions...and then saying "you're going to get lost no matter what."
9.  remembering, in detail, what you had done fleetingly three hours before.
10.  Finding a map...finding where we want to be...not knowing where we were...making the map utterly useless.
