the great and adored Hatshepsut!

Did you see it on tv?! Did you read about it in the papers?!

THE GREAT HATSHEPSUT HAS BEEN FOUND!!! And the heavens rejoice and we all sing hymns to light up her way to her divine father Ra, the sun.

I was so excited when I heard about it yesterday! My aunt (who share this fixation with the pharaoh-queen) called me to let me know that the arabic news channels was sending from Cairo where Zahi Hawass gave a press conference and told everyone about the mummy they had found. And an amazing story too! She was found in 1903 during the excavation of Kings Valley but was not recognized as the supreme ruler of her time. Instead she was allowed to dwell in KV 60 where clever priests (or so the story goes) had hidden her before. She was one of the few mummies left behind in the valley.

A few canopic jars has been found with Hatshepsuts seal on them and in one of those a tooth was found (not uncommon for embalmers to place leftover bodyparts from the process in jars or coffins next to the body, as long as nothing gets lost no foul, right?)

With the trusty technique of today DNA could prove that the mummy in KV 60 was in fact the queen-become-king! And that mummy had some secrets too. She was over 50 years old, had diabetes and cancer. And she was fat!

I cant wait to get back to Egypt to pay her my respects!
