I spent this morning working on five inches if 1x1 ribbing for the second sleeve of an old cardigan project I'm pecking away at. Chairman Mao - I mean, Gato - spent most of that time curled up on my lap asleep.
It only took about two hours of hiding under our bed for Senor Gato to come out. We set up a litter box in the corner of our bedroom for him and some food/water nearby his favorite hiding spot, treated him with the last thing of Frontline that was in the package after treating our cats. Good gods the poor thing is just skin and bones; I can feel his ribs and it worries me. We're free-feeding him until he puts on enough weight, then we'll feed him at intervals like our cats until we can find him a home.
He started warming up to Eric first. I suspect he's more partial to guys, as he was pretty fond of his male owner. Not so much the lady one. But then again, she was mean and pretty abusive. He warmed up to me pretty quick, too.
Our cats are most certainly Not Pleased, but they'll get over it. They're at least giving him space and not making a huge fuss about it.
Senor Gato spent last night curled up with us on our bed. He's an up close and personal kind of cat, very much a lap cat - our cats are most definitely not lap cats, so it's a nice change. It'll be sad to see him go.
I have plans to take him in to our vet next week as soon as possible. I've sent out the Cat Signal through various internet connections and hoping someone will pick it up; otherwise as soon as he's good and healthy we might Craigslist his business or take him to the Humane Society. I'm more inclined to foster him first and get him used to humans again as he *was* in an abusive situation before. He's still very skittish and will dart under the bed at too sudden a movement.
He's a good cat. I wish we were in a bigger apartment so we could outright adopt him, but that's just not in the cards for us at the moment. I'll be happy to see him in a good forever home that'll give him the love and attention he needs. He's got a lot of love to give, you guys. :/
lin is a crazy cat lady,
