There’s just one time, really, that she makes a mistake. It’s a huge shock, because Lilly’s always so assured, so ready for whatever life throws at her, kissing and laughing and breathing are all the same to her, really, and Veronica can’t help but admire her, can’t help but worship her.
But when they’re together and Lilly’s hands are in her bra, and her smooth thigh is pressed between Veronica’s slim legs, and their mouths are just a mess of hot tongues and passion and it’s so much hotter because just through that wall that Veronica’s hand is pressed against is Duncan and he doesn’t have a clue what’s going on in this pink bedroom where Lilly still has her My Little Ponies and her Care bears on a shelf. Another thing he doesn’t know is that she has some of Celeste’s romance novels hidden behind Funshine Bear and Secret Bear. Lilly always seems secure in repeating the phrases, laughing and wrinkling her nose at the adjectives tacked onto the fronts of them. If you saw Lilly like this, you’d think nobody could ever make a mistake, not really, not in that way.
But when Veronica’s on top, and her mouth is attached to Lilly’s throat, her hand drops to Lilly’s shorts, and Lilly gasps, freezes, squeezes her eyes tight and says in a strangled voice ‘please don’t’, and Veronica’s shocked into pulling back completely. She kisses Lilly on the nose, and snuggles down beside her, and they gaze at the ceiling for a while. and after a while, Lilly turns and she kisses Veronica on the forehead, and Veronica knows that it’ll be okay, in the end.
