Yesterday was rare.

First of all, I

, beat FFXII, and got a new TV (30", wide/flat screen, HD), so life is pretty good.  And here's a picture of my purple bass:

Also, I was sick for a couple days, but now I'm on vacation from Walmart, so that's even better.  My plans include sleeping, purchasing and building a new TV stand, getting my DVD burner and scanner to work, and seeing the Reno 911! movie.  Yup, that's about it.

The rest of this entry has been
Something eventful actually happened!  I was coming back from driving Aaron home, and I see Danny, on his quad, on the pond.  Then, I see the back half of Danny's quad in the water, and Danny running for the dock.  So I flew into Grammie's driveway and asked him what I should do.  He told me to call his dad, so I did, and then I called Matt and Aaron to tell them what happened.  Big Stevie came down about literally like 1 second later, and you could hear him hollering for probably miles away.  Danny was fine and all that, but Stevie wanted to get the quad out of the ice before it completely went under.  Unfortunately, he brought a rope that was like 3 feet long and couldn't get close enough to the quad anyway to even tie it.  Danny and I were obviously also too heavy, so I went to get Aaron because he was the only one we knew was home that would have a chance.

In the 2 minutes it took for me to get Aaron, Big Stevie fell in, with the entire quad.  Thankfully, our other cousin Bruce was across the cove at his place, and heard Danny yelling that his dad fell in, because he flew over in his truck with longer ropes.  If he hadn't have showed up, I really don't know what we would've done.  He tossed Big Stevie the rope, telling him to tie it around himself, and then sent Danny to call the Fire Department and all that.  Well, all Stevie seemed to care about was the quad, and kept saying over and over again that he was fine and to worry about getting the quad out of the water.  He also decided to tie the rope to the quad, and not himself, which made it all the more difficult for us to try to pull him out.  It started to get a little scary, because he started getting tired, and his hands were numb from being in the icy water, so the wet rope kept slipping through his hands.

He was in the water for a while too, because at first just one cop showed up and didn't really know what to do because he didn't have a dry suit or anything.  He tried to use a boat, but the canoe was at Aaron's house, so the only things down at the pond were the paddle boat, which is made out of plastic, and a little metal rowboat that wouldn't even break the ice.  Then EMTs showed up, but they didn't really do anything either, aside for telling Stevie to remain calm and that they would get him out of the water.  He even told them to get the quad out and not worry about him, but they kept saying "Sir, we're a little more concerned with getting YOU out of the water," and stuff like that.  When the fire department got there, they got him out of the water pretty quickly though, and wrapped him up with blankets and got him on a gurney.  He was shaking and stuff, and like I said, he had been in there a while, so they rushed him to the hospital.  They checked Danny out and said he was ok to go, so he changed his clothes and Channing took him to the hospital.

By then, I realized that no one had even told Little Stevie about anything, so I called him up and let him know what was going on, and picked him up from Friendly's, where he was waiting for a lift from school.  His grandmother picked him up from Grammie's house and took him to the hospital to see his dad.  Right before we left to get Stevie, news helicopters started flying around the dock, and when we got back, the story was already being broadcast.  It was kinda sick, seeing the dock on the news, and the quad upside-down in the water.  Aaron and I realized we were the first people there, but decided we didn't want to talk to anyone.  However, when WBZ showed up at Grammie's, and started asking her questions off-camera, she sold us out and told them that we were the first ones there.

So Aaron and I went out and talked to that guy, and went on-camera down at the pond.  Then Channels 7 and 5 showed up, along with Bruce and Dale, who also gave interviews.  Dale was definitely the best, saying that he warned Stevie to get off the ice about an hour before everything happened, and calling him "crazy" on-air.  When WBZ was interviewing us (the first one we did), I almost couldn't keep myself from laughing, just because the whole thing was so bizarre.  And I mean, I definitely realized that Stevie was in danger, and that their quad was probably ruined, but if you get past all that, the whole thing was a little funny.  So Aaron and I became media whores.  Actually, speaking of media whores, Little Stevie came back from the hospital to find a local media circus at his house, where all the aforementioned channels were waiting to speak to his father or brother.  Little Stevie immediately jumped into the role of agent, taking the chick from Channel 5's card, and releasing a statement from Big Stevie ("No comment"), but promising that if he changed his mind, Little Stevie would gladly give interviews to the stations on his behalf.  It was the best.

There was also the issue of getting the quad out of the water.  When most of the action died down and there was only one cop left, a few of my cousins decided they were gonna try to get the quad out themselves, instead of waiting for the environmental police.  So they started tying Bruce's ropes to Maryanne's paddle boat, and the cop came down and told them not to go on the ice.  So they were like "Ok, ok," and started untying the rope.  Then the cop left, and they tied it again, but decided the paddleboat wasn't good enough, and that's when the news helicopters started showing up, so they stopped.  Much later on, they somehow tied the rope to the quad, and the other end to Bruce's truck, pulled it to the dock and then heaved it out.  Everyone had been talking about the fines they were going to incur all day, since the quad didn't have a license, Danny was underage, etc.  Maryanne got Little Stevie in a frenzy by telling him that in New Hampshire the fine just for getting pulled out of the ice is $5,000.  So he started flipping out, saying his dad didn't have that kind of money and that he'd have to cash in his Certificate of Deposit to save his family and all this stuff.  Well, the fine ended up being a whopping 25 dollars, so I think Steven's CD is safe for now.

So after all that, Aaron and mine's 15 seconds of fame were over, so fired our agents, assistants, stylists and publicists.  Then we picked up Vikki and some rolls for dinner and went about our daily lives.  We get home and a little while later, Maryanne called to tell us that Channel 10 was down at Grammie's, and they wanted to speak to us.  They came up and did the interview in our house.  My mom was embarrased because it was a mess, and I was mad when we watched it later, because they didn't do Aaron's segment, which had Matt playing Zelda in the background.  At 11 we flipped through all the broadcasts, and I couldn't really pick a favorite, because Channel 7 featured Dale calling Stevie crazy, and more of Aaron, with his newly blue mohawk.  Channel 4 was the first one we did, so it'll always have a special place in our hearts.  We were disappointed with Channel 10 for cutting Aaron, but they had Grampy on instead, which I think made up for it.  Channel 5 might've been the best though, just because I think they got everyone, plus Big Stevie going into the house when he got home from the hospital - still in his hospital clothes - hollering about how it wasn't even a big deal.  Plus they had shots of the fish traps (why Danny was on the pond to begin with)... and ALL the flags were up (meaning, they all had fish on them).  Also, I saw Danny's butt crack on 2 of the stations, because they showed footage of him, Chan, and Mike taking the quad out of the back of the truck.

So all in all, it was a pretty interesting day.  I'm just glad Big Stevie's okay, and I thanked Danny for giving us something to talk about all day.

Watch Aaron and me on WBZ!
