We went to Frankie's yesterday for a D&D one-shot. It was a lot of fun. She made us full sized puppets of our characters! We had to put on a
play with
them (links to parts 1 & 2 of said play). They were so freaking cute. Our improv play really didn't make a whole lot of sense but it did end in an orgy since everyone was now in love to piss off the hag who turned us into puppets. I played a satyr named Odette who is that drunk girl you find in the bathroom of a party who tells you you're pretty, gives you a flower crown, offers you a drink and then vanishes. I had so much fun playing a chaotic stupid character for a change and I can't wait to do it again.
Day 24:
The Ronettes "Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes featuring Veronica"
Favorite Track(s): "What'd I Say"
This felt appropriate. After Ronnie Spector passed in January, I figured I should put this on my list as many lauded over her career and her life. I honestly can't say I had ever heard about her specifically even if I did know a couple Ronettes songs. Then, on Friday night while watching Drag Race, they had a maxi challenge where the queens had to take part in 60s girl groups. One of them was a parody of the Ronettes. That is why I chose that for today's listen.
This was cute. It's saccharine sweet, 60s pop ballads. Part of me hoped it would be more. It's like early Beatles, it's radio and family friendly to the point it gives you a toothache. I'm sure teen girls and young housewives adored the shit out of this but we've come a long way in feminism (sort of). I appreciate this for what it is and who the Ronettes were but it's really not something that will ever be in my rotation again.
