So things are going better these past few days. It seems like up until now, my parents and I have just been butting heads about everything. William's family too was crazy the last time we visited and it didn't help the situation. My parents want a pastor, when they are REALLY hard to find in the area if you aren't getting married in a "home" church. Whenever I would find someone, they would count the reasons why they didn't like him/her. They were stressing me out about religion and getting married somewhere cheap. My father has been pushing the idea of a restaurant for the reception, mostly I think because he thinks it will get me married in a church. Plus, then there is the guest list. If it was up to me, it would be us and our immediate families. But, with stress from Grammy, I have to invite everyone! in my entire extended family or we will be disowned. Well, if I'm gonna invite all these people that I don't know, I thought maybe I'd invite the people I do know and love too (ie my friends) and my parents were concerned that the number was getting too big. It just seems like you can't win sometimes...
But enough complaining. We found a location. It is beautiful and I'm pretty much in love with it. Their pictures don't do them justice, as it just happens to be the quaintest little bed and breakfast in the world. They have a little place to get married in the far corner, and then you walk up the gravel paths to the "barn" which happens to be one of the coolest reception halls ever. It even has a little loft upstairs. I'm allowed to do all my own decorations, which I dreamt of, and even better, we get to bring our own alcohol in and serve it ourselves. This saves an unbelievable amount of money and I couldn't be happier! I already know that we are going to have a mix of Louisiana and Kansas wines, and we are going to do the toast with my all time favorite dessert wine from Feliciana Cellars. They have cute decorations without being way too far out there. And it is close enough, hopefully, that William's grandmother could make it to at least the ceremony. It looks like its going to be held on 10/10/09 but we are stil working the little kinks out of the contract. Just to find a cute place that is in our price range is totally awesome and a huge relief.
My father also has some leads for a priest pastor. They are long and involved and not really all that interesting, but I guess I can say that I should be thankful that my father is so active at the local level in Baton Rouge. I guess it also doesn't hurt that my parents' priest is the Episcopal head of interfaith ministries and happens to frequent Wichita a good bit. I can't wait to find out if these connnections help us at all :D
I've also been working on GA stuff as well. I'm really excited for this semester because the professor I'm working with wants to make my job as related to my job search as possible. So instead of spending all my time grading, he's actually having me set up a extracurricular program/student service extra credit project for our students. It's a contest to see who can get the "best" overall education by making use of services on campus and going to sporting and cultural events. It's been so much fun walking around and talking with all the student services people, secretly hoping and praying that I'll have a similar job in 6 months. I even found out that the counseling center does free premarital counseling as well which we are totally taking advantage of in the fall.
Things are still pretty good with William. I guess it wouldn't be normal if there were days I didn't want anything else but to scratch his eyes out, but for the most part we are doing fine. He is looking around for schools he is interested in so that maybe he'll be able to start somewhere next fall. If anyone has any ideas on good schools with great programs in Human Factors or any other closely related degree like ergonomics, please lemme know. I think he is looking at a school in Iowa right now, but we are very open minded (as I want to move closer to home!)
Thats about it. I have a meeting at 2, so I gotta go shower. Woooooot!
