My adopted state pwns!

MASSACHUSETTS IS SUING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

We were the first state to legalize gay marriage, and now we're attempting to pwn the U.S. government by saying that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutionally interferes with the rights of the states to regulate marriage within its borders (a right previously acknowledged by the federal government as belonging to the states).  "The lawsuit also argues that the federal law requires the state to violate the constitutional rights of its citizens by treating married heterosexual couples and married same-sex couples differently when determining eligibility for Medicaid benefits and when determining whether the spouse of a veteran can be buried in a Massachusetts veterans' cemetery.  'In enacting DOMA, Congress overstepped its authority, undermined states' efforts to recognize marriages between same-sex couples, and codified an animus towards gay and lesbian people,' the lawsuit states."

The Department of Justice, having recently filed a brief in federal court likening homosexuals to people who rape children, has no comment at the moment.

How nice it is to know that 233 years later Massachusetts is still willing to tell the government to kiss its ass.  :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
