Sick kitty

My cat James is ill, although we don't know what's wrong. He hasn't been acting normally and I knew something was wrong; Stan doesn't notice it, but he never noticed the other cats were ill during their final illnesses either and has come to trust my judgment on the matter. Thing is, we took him to the vet on Wednesday and the exam was normal -- by observation he seems completely healthy. So the vet suggested we isolate him for the evening/night to see if he's eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom properly. He did gobble up the wet food I gave him, but only ate a few kibbles in the hours after, even though he's normally a greedy chow-hound who loves his food. And he didn't drink water or go to the bathroom at all.

I haven't checked on him in a few hours now because he's locked in Stan's room, so hopefully he's gone to the bathroom and had a drink since, but I'm still sure something's wrong. He just isn't acting like himself. And while I'm glad there was nothing obviously wrong with him during his exam yesterday, somehow it makes me even more nervous because something IS clearly wrong. Anyway, I'll be calling the vet to update them first thing in the morning, and if he hasn't done some significant pooping/peeing by then he will definitely go back in.

ETA: As soon as I finished typing this, he was clawing at the door and wanting to come out, which is good. I let him out for some supervised time out and he had a long, slow drink of water, definitely taking his time and not gulping like he often does. I feel a bit better about him finally drinking, but he's still acting unusually.
