Friday photos

Friday was the first day of the UW gem show, and it was pretty good. Stan realized the other day that we're seriously in debt (mostly thanks to those kittens' bills) so I couldn't spend much :> Anyway, I sat at the club table and pimped the club and gave out rocks, looked at stuff, and panned for real gold flakes in a small plastic kiddie pool. Turns out I'm really bad at panning for gold, which doesn't bode well for my goal to go gold-panning in a real stream.

There was a life-size TARDIS there, which I photographed badly (see behind the cut). I'll try to get better pics tomorrow, although it's a tricky location to shoot in. And while cycling to UW, I ran into the convocation ceremony of the other university in town, which they held at the Rec Complex for some reason. Okay, it was slightly annoying to bike through a packed parking lot, but no big deal. Then I got to the road, intending to take the bike lane as one is supposed to...only to find the bike lanes on both sides of the street blocked by assholes parking illegally. Yes, I mad. I don't care if it was convocation, you guys made everything incredibly inconvenient and unsafe for everyone, and fuck WLU for not organizing the ceremony logistics more carefully.

When I cycled home hours after convocation, there was still one jerk parked in the bike lane (and mysteriously, one on a park footpath). I hope they got a ton of tickets.

Bike lane parking
See?

Heavy traffic
In addition to illegal parking, traffic was very congested. Oh, and that glass building in the background is the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics.

Terrible parking job
Not only are they parked in the bike lane, they're BADLY parked, so at least they're inconveniencing everyone.

Illegally parked as far as the eye can see.
