Sick kitty

My cat James is ill, although we don't know what's wrong. He hasn't been acting normally and I knew something was wrong; Stan doesn't notice it, but he never noticed the other cats were ill during their final illnesses either and has come to trust my judgment on the matter. Thing is, we took him to the vet on Wednesday and the exam was normal -- ( Read more... )

Thank you :) He did pee twice in the night, but never pooped. I talked to the senior vet a few minutes ago, and he thinks we should continue to observe and make sure he's eating/drinking, but he didn't think that it's serious enough to bring him back in as things are going now. I admit to being "fretful mother" concerned that he hasn't pooped and isn't eating his dry kibble, though :\ And of course, the big question is what caused this in the first place?

So his being all non-chalant and 'oh hai ther gest' with me was a symptom. Sadface :(

No, he was his usual noisy begging/obnoxious self until a few days ago. He vomited twice Monday morning (I think it was Monday morning) but I didn't think much of it until he became lethargic and withdrawn by Tuesday afternoon and that never improved. And when I realized that Tuesday night the food dishes had been emptied but he'd never made a peep I became really concerned, because he always howls at me if the dishes get below 1/3 full. So this is pretty recent.

The news is very bad, unfortunately :( Not only did he eat something inedible and it's in his gut (which hopefully he'll eventually poop out, but it's tough to say at this point), he's in acute kidney failure.

No, originally they were hopeful he'd poop out the litter on his own as long as he kept eating. I guess I don't know why they didn't give anything to help pass it. And now that we know he's in renal failure they're probably concerned most drugs will harm his kidneys (that's why he's not on pain meds).

We can't afford IV treatment right now, especially because it'd have to be at the emergency vet because ours is closed for the weekend :\ He's on 200 ml of subcutaneous fluids twice a day, and I hope that's good enough.
