LAUGHING FOREVER AT THAT STRIP ZOMG XDDD

The lord of the rings! Such good memories! I wanted to hurry and finish the books before the (first)movie would come out: MY BEST CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS EVER! I spent long hours sitting by the fire with the (very handy!) Middle-earth map spread open beside me :) It didn't feel like so long ago until I realized it was 2001 D:
Frodo and Sam are so cute >o< ! Sam is so sweet, I want to squish him in my arms X3 They have some very gay moments but I don't ship them because they are the best example of FRIENDS! <3333

I didn't even try reading them before the movie, and I am glad, because then I would have been more picky about the changes.

"they are the best example of FRIENDS!"

No. I am sorry. What Sam feels for Frodo is NOT friendship, it is sheer adoration. He openly says he loves him. The way he looks at him and talks of him, that is NOT friendship. Perhaps Tolkien couldn't be more graphic about it because of the time the book was written, and yet it is suspicious enough. And in the movie, the lack of thoughts is supplied with Sam's eyes, which are reaaaally expressive. So, no. Merry and Pippin could pass as just friends, but Sam is clearly in love with Frodo. Call it platonic if you want, but it's still MORE than manly friendship (like that Yusuke and Kuwabara have in YYH, for instance). I still have one book ahead to judge, but, honestly, try to re-read the last passage of the book, right before they go into Shelob's lair, or when Sam thinks Frodo is dead! :O

I took the adoration as part of his humility, always having clear in his head that he's his servant and all. They are not on equality terms as Merry and Pippin, so it's a bit different. You are right in that Sam feels very (VERY) strongly of Frodo, but I can't see it stepping *over* the line of friendship. Maybe it's just me wanting to be blind (LOL), but the whole story will forever be a tale of friendship to me :)

Why should they step over the line of friendship for Sam's feelings to be beyond friendship? It doesn't need to become carnal to be love. Sam marries (in the movie he does, I don't know in the books, yet), but that doesn't mean he can't love Frodo as much as he loves his wife. Labels keep being inaccurate for human feelings!

This reminds me of the recent exhibit of Michelangelo's drawings in London. I happened to read a couple of articles on the subject of his love for his muse and "student", friend until the end of his days. Apparently, they never materialized their love carnaly, but the younger boy, married and with children, stayed by his side when the master died, and earlier he'd mutually professed their love in letters.

That said, I don't need to read fic or doujinshi of Sam and Frodo going at it, if that's what you mean, because I too like their relationship just as it is! : )

Tranquila, yo encantada. :D

I love it!!

Really? I think I was lucky not to have read the books before watching the movie, because it would have been difficult to not find faults everywhere when comparing the two. You did start one fic!? Heh!!

I just watched "Glee" and they had the song in there too and now I keep seeing Sauron dancing like the kids did in "Glee", after he had his glorious idea with the ring _._

ROFLOL!

I can imagine your outrage at that part!! I am really, really glad I watched the movies first.

Helm's Deep battle is SO SHORT in the book!!
Faramir is much nicer and understanding. Frodo and Sam become his fanboys instantly, and little wonder!
But that split up scene... why!??? Perhaps to make Sam braver for following Frodo in spite of it all, which was unnecesary, and, what I suspect is the real reason, to avoid the two very gay scenes: the one sleeping and the holding hands moment at Shelob's lair.

They are inseparable. I have been spoiled that Sam goes after Frodo in the end, to the Gray Havens, and I LOVED IT.

;___________; I still need to post more about it, dammit.

Well there were more things that I was peeved about, but those really stood out. Otherwise I think it's a nice adaption. even if I do imagine Tolkien rotating in his grave, since he didn't really like modern contraption and probably really wouldn't have wanted them made into movies. heh.I don't understand that scene either. But maybe you're right... tone down on the "gay undertones" (because us modern day people don't understand the relationship in the context it was written in? a bit of the officer and batmen relationship, where the lower class has utmost devotion?). But I still think people can look beyond that and see an undying sort of love, that transcends the modern day "gayness ( ... )

No, no, you didn't spoil me! I was spoiled long ago, and it didn't matter.

"But I still think people can look beyond that and see an undying sort of love, that transcends the modern day "gayness"."

YES.

I will, I have all the details in mind and the texts at hand! ;D
