Well there were more things that I was peeved about, but those really stood out. Otherwise I think it's a nice adaption. even if I do imagine Tolkien rotating in his grave, since he didn't really like modern contraption and probably really wouldn't have wanted them made into movies. heh.

I don't understand that scene either. But maybe you're right... tone down on the "gay undertones" (because us modern day people don't understand the relationship in the context it was written in? a bit of the officer and batmen relationship, where the lower class has utmost devotion?). But I still think people can look beyond that and see an undying sort of love, that transcends the modern day "gayness".

Sorry if I spoiled you D: Though it's actually not even part of any books. The only way you can find out about it is reading some letters Tolkien exchanged with friends, where he states the how and whys about it. I would love to discuss that with you (it's so poignant and beautiful really!) once you've finished the books fully ♥ did you read them in Spanish?
