It wasn't really their fault.

You see, the thing is, both Nico and Percy are kind of oblivious to social cues. Nico spends most of his time around people who aren't even alive (so he can hardly be blamed) and Percy is...well, Percy.

It's one of the first things Annabeth and Rachel agree upon. The four of them are sitting in Rachel's living room (if anything in the Dare estate can be considered something as mundane as a living room) over Christmas break. Percy arrived with Annabeth earlier, having visited her in Olympus for a few days, and Nico materialized from the shadows from who-knows-where with not so much as a "Hello ( ... )

Rachel gets out of Clarion a couple of days before Percy's school year ends, and she waits in the lobby of the Empire State Building for Annabeth to come down from Olympus ( ... )

Percy and Annabeth make their way to camp a few days later, and it's mostly an uneventful trip. They kill a couple of monsters on the way there (all of the demigods now pouring into New York certainly must alert them) but Percy laughs through most of the fight and Annabeth is happy for the exercise.

They meet Rachel when they get there. She's staying in a room in the Big House for the summer, although she frowns when they ask her about it. "Apollo decorated it," she informs them, and they both visibly cringe. "Yeah, tell me about it," she agrees ( ... )

She holds her breath. She doesn’t imagine it’s an easy question for Kairi. She had seen the redhead and brunette together. To say she was jealous wasn’t entirely the right word. But it was something akin to it, the way she felt about their connection. But maybe Kairi hadn’t known. Selphie feared, more then anything, breaking the group up again ( ... )
