Crafts! And work.

I received my "welcome package" by courier today - my background check officially came back clear, so they were officially allowed to finalize my offer. Geez. Only 2 business days until I'm supposed to start, but whatever :). Actually, I got a call on Tuesday about it, so I knew it was coming. So yay, I'm officially starting my job on Monday :). The letter that came with the package was nice, actually. It had a description of when I should be there on my first day (otherwise the schedule is flexible), what the dress code is, who I should ask for, who my training buddy will be, who my HR rep is, all sorts of good stuff. Very organized. I wonder if it will actually happen that way, or if they just try to be organized, but can't follow through :).

As I mentioned a couple posts ago, Barb came over today, and we did Christmas crafts. Actually, most of the time was spent cutting stuff out. One Santa Boot place setting thingy was completed, and all of the photo gift tag things were cut out, but not assembled. Everything else will be done some other time, apparently :). Mom would be so proud of us and our crafts :).

After she left, I started and finished sewing a cover for my cross stitch basket. I picked up a basket for a couple of my current projects, because, although I hate to admit it, I guess it's not a good thing to use seating as craft storage :). So, the projects go in the basket, and the basket sits in the side table on my side of the couch. However, the side table has an open area on the bottom half (it's got a drawer on top, and the bottom is open...actually, it looks like this, although ours is a different finish...and yes, Johnathan found that by googling "Ikea side table"...sheesh). This means dust can easily end up on my projects. To combat this, I whipped up a basket cover. Johnathan even helped with a lot of it, making suggestions on how to do the corners (like a slip-cover, apparently), offering advice on pinning logistics, and helped me sort the fabric out when it started to get shifty and irritating while putting in the elastic.

Here's the Santa Boot. You can see a couple of the soon-to-be gift tags on the left beside the plate, as well as a couple of the paper templates for the tags (star, square, and a tree).

Getting a little fancy with the leftover felt to hide the ugly counter :).

Basket cover, without flash, because the flash washes it out. It's made from fabric that a friend brought back from Japan for me. Yes, those are fat little owls.

From a different angle, with flash :).

This one is so that you can see that there's an elastic band in it to keep it on.
