  1. Thank you to whomever got me the cute little present in my profile. It was anon, so I have no idea who gave it to me. At first I was like "cool, a green bow box. I'm a little confused, but awesome" then a few days later it turned into an animal. And not some wussy little kitten either. A gopher. Much cooler IMO. Even though I've never considered actually paying for those things, I do find them adorable.
  2. Sewing. I've been doing a lot of it lately. I've been working on my "free motion" quilting technique and made some mug rugs. I've got material and plans to make some for my parents. I've made one ST one and one with teal flowers on a brown background. The ST one was fun because the stitching disappeared into the fabric while the flower one was fun because I used the same color teal thread so you can see the contrasting stitching. I do it really close for a mug rug and probably need to space it out a bit so that I can actually finish a quilt (after, you know, I make the front).
  3. I've quilted some for the help_nz project, a command one and an engineering/security one . Have a look if you're interested. I have no idea if I priced it right, but I figure shipping may be expensive if it's international.
  4. Including mug rugs for the 'rents, I'm also toying with the idea of a weighted blanket. I like sleeping under blankets, but in the summer it's so darn HOT. Ironically they're also supposed to be excellent for people with autism/ADD. I try not to judge. I bought 10 lbs of weighted pellets and will probably be sewing furiously this weekend. Well Sunday...
  5. Saturday I have a 5K for charity. I'm excited and anxious about this as it's been a long time since I've run 3 miles without stopping. I was excited yesterday when I was able to make it running for 25 minutes. However, my fastest previous 5K (about 2 years ago) was 27 minutes or so. And I'm strangely competitive and really REALLY want to beat my labmate. Don't even ask me why. To be fair, I do run at a brisk pace.
  6. However, I'm also currently feeling like a huge skin-bag of mucus. I caught my friend's fiancee's cold. Silly boy. But I'm hoping I can breathe by Saturday. But my last-minute runs will be killed by this. On the other hand, I have new socks. Maybe that'll help.
  7. Science has been stinky towards me lately. My bacteria are picky little suckers and when given Serine or Glutamine as a carbon source they're all "DO NOT WANT". Which means my growth curve experiment for today is shot. I'll probably discover some other potential carbon sources to test when I go to talk to the Boss later on today. But I'm probably going to go home early. Because I feel like a huge slimeball. (In the fact I'm a huge sicky.)

sewing funtimes, run run run, list o doom, sicky
