So Many Things That I Want To Say...

Mar 27, 2011 20:00

empressearwig gave me 5 More Things/Questions to ruminate on, so I’m going to let my overly-specificness carry me through my Sunday. I’ve got a pasta tray in the oven, my brother and my dad are both sacked out on the couch, flipping back and forth between March Madness and Dirty Harry, so I’m pretty much left to my own devices.

To be fair (to myself), this all came from *Slightly* Canon Ships, and that’s how I’m going to have to explain myself. Over the past year or so, my shipping habits have changed, and I’ve fallen hard and fast for some Big, Show-Mandated OTP’s (Bill/Sookie, Elena/Stefan, Grey’s Musical Chairs, etc.), but in my early days of fandom, I pretty much existed outside of whatever canon was going on, and just made up shit in my head. (To put it eloquently...)

This probably all stems from being a Soap Fan For Life. Now, probably like most GH people, I haven’t watched it *straight through* for life, but have drifted in and out over the years. I was completely and utterly addicted all through middle school and the beginning of high school, and those were the Claire Labine/Beginning of Guza years (which is such a far cry from current Guza, it feels almost supernatural), so I really got spoiled with my introduction to soap obsession. It was amazing, intricate story-telling. And then...I kind of fell off through high school and the beginning of college (getting swept up in teenager-ness and whatnot, and of course, those were the days before DVR and youtube, so once you got off-pace for a week or two, you were kind of screwed) but still managed to catch most of the gist of the Mixed Married’s, Lucky/Elizabeth, Sonny/Carly and that whole era.

But then, in 2002, I heard Brenda Barrett would be back, and I pretty much cleared my schedule for it. Falling back in love with Brenda and Jax led to me falling in love with Elizabeth and Ric, and then...the Panic Room happened. BUT, since I had been in hiatus throughout the Meat Hook, and all of that fallout, I wasn’t really catching on right away that something wasn’t right in Port Charles, and the format and the genre had changed.

Cut forward to the Panic Room.

Now, do we remember how the Panic Room started? Ric drugged Elizabeth, and left her on the couch...and then Lorenzo Alcazar, in his first Port Charles scene (he’d had something with Sonny outside of the country) finds a beautiful, naked woman on a couch, unconscious. DOES THAT SOUND LIKE THE BEGINNING OF SOAP GOLD OR WHAT?

So, I think it’s funny that I’ve never talked about it, but Elizabeth/Lorenzo (or A&E, as we called them on the Paint Brushes & Vodka Bottles message board, which no longer exists) were my first big non-canon couple, and more importantly, my first online fandom couple. I was all over that board for a good year or two, and it was only that couple, all the time. I participated in a gift campaign where we sent dvd’s and books and scrapbooks of fanart and fic to Becky and Ted at the studio. Crazy stuff. It’s like a fannish experience that I blocked out, but there it was, all through 2003-2005ish.

So...in conclusion...my Not-Remotely-Canon shipping usually comes from the very slightest tipoff that...there’s a possibility. My imagination seems to be taking a break from making up intricate worlds and universes and galaxies, but that is how I got started.

Unless we’re talking about Crossovers, which is another whole ball of wax.

My accent is thick. Thick, I tell you.

What can I say? I studied languages and dialects in college (it’s a FLOURISHING career path, let me tell you), so I’m a nerd about it, and obviously a stickler when it’s concerning my hometown.

Note: the keyword is not ‘pahk’. The watchword you should listen for is: ‘Sattidy (Saturday)’.

Blake Lively making my ears bleed. Oh, it hurts to even listen to this for 1:17.

Are still my OTP to end all OTP’s. (Haven’t yet really begun my Search for The Next Great OTP.)

You just can’t argue with this:

But I DON’T hate sports!

In fact, it might interest you to know that I have been to college hockey games these past two weekends in a row!

But let’s back up, because I’m sure I know where you get this.

So, I do NOT hate sports. I wrestled on the boys’ wrestling team in high school (in other words, I’m a hardcore mofo’.) Really though? I have no interest in WATCHING sports, particularly professional sports. The one time I was really into it was the 2004 World Series, but that’s more because it was such a fun time around town, with lots of parties to go to. Speaking of the aforementioned hockey games, my college was in the...something finals. But they lost last night, so they’re out. But I will go to events like that, if I’m invited, for the social aspect. (Still though, I give people an out when I am invited, because the ticket will be better used on someone else.)

I lived right by Fenway for three years. And ugh, my commute all through the summer made me cringe. People PACKED onto the trains, acting like it was a novel experience. I would never root AGAINST a Boston team. But yeah. If I’m home alone, and the Pats are playing, or I can OnDemand Mean Girls? I’m going to go for MG. Every time.

I could go on for days. I’ll let Nancy Kwan speak for me.

*I will say, I do not do pink. It’s not my color and I feel ridiculous in it. I do live in a Sparkly Purple World, though, for sure.

1. What is your favorite color nail polish?
~I don’t have an absolute favorite. For every day, I will use Essie’s Mademoiselle or OPI’s Sugar Daddy. For fun in the summer, I use OPI’s I’m Not Really A Waitress. For fun in the winter, I use OPI’s Midnight In Moscow or We’ll Always Have Paris. For a dressy occasion, I like a french manicure, with OPI’s Bubble Bath & Ballet Slippers.

2. If you could make any one of your crazy couples canon (and only one), which one do you pick?
~Stop it. You’re making me choose between children. But...maybe what you and I consider to be ‘canon’ is entirely different. To me, ‘canon’ means that one of the parties involved acknowledges (publicly or privately) that they have a deeper feeling [than friendship] and/or have an attraction to the other person. So to that end...I guess I’m going to go with George Weasley and Luna Lovegood...BECAUSE...there was absolutely no need for JKR to give them ‘endings’ that had nothing to do with the epilogue in Deathly Hallows. More I hate that she *negated* their happy ending.

3. Caroline Forbes: what crossover/cracky ship do you see in her future?
~I had to sit for a while and think about this, but after I did...Angel. It makes a shitload of sense. Her and Damon go on a road trip for some mission or other, and Damon’s all nervous to meet him and everything because it’s Angelus for chrissakes, and he tries to act all badass in front of him, but then they are both kind of perplexed because Angel’s a total dork. (A big, strong ass dork.) I can just see Caroline having to chill in LA for a while, waiting for some Original to try to get Something that they need in the war, and....yeah...I’m there now...

4. You can only watch five movies for the rest of your life. Which five movies?
~Hmmmmm.....Rocky (which my brother eventually turned on this afternoon, and we re-enacted in front of the tv, line for line). The Family Stone. The Breakfast Club. The 2003 Peter Pan.....Shit. I can’t do this. I’m going to say Last Of The Mohicans, but I’m sure I’m forgetting one twelve of my all time favorites.

5. Favorite song by your favorite artist
~Who is my favorite artist? I’m honestly not sure. Right now, it’s probably Taylor, but that might be because she is who I am most *fannish* about...but I do pretty much love all of her music. She doesn’t get too many skips on the iPod. My favorite Taylor song? That makes my heart soar and brings tears to my eyes, and embarrasses me when someone sees me grinning maniacally and mouthing the words? Long Live.
