PRODIGAL

“JAEJOONG! I swear I’m…” G-Dragon said through gritted teeth then stopped when he saw Jaejoong’s bloodied hand. He immediately knew what happened.

“GD! Thank god, the bond! The bond…fuck!” Jaejoong launched himself to G-Dragon. G-Dragon took Jaejoong’s wounded hand and look at it, fortunately the wound wasn’t that deep.

“I know, I know, calm down Jae…” G-Dragon patted Jaejoong’s head and Jaejoong couldn’t hold back his tears. He sobbed in G-Dragon’s arm. “Hey, that’s okay. Now you have to come with me, before something bad happens to Yoochun, okay?” Jaejoong nodded and the two disappeared right after Junsu saw them from afar since he had ran after Jaejoong earlier.

“Fuck,” Junsu swore and dialed Changmin’s number. “G-Dragon took Jaejoong!”

Changmin laughed, “That’s fine, I’m pretty sure Yunho had killed Yoochun by now.”

“What happen to Jaejoong?”

“Ah, he’ll be fine~” Changmin laughed and disconnected the line.

“But…Changmin!” Junsu tried to dial the number again but he figured Changmin had turned his phone off. He smashed his phone to the floor in frustration and leaned to the wall. “What did I do wrong?”

Another sword got in the way of Yunho’s as it traveled its way to Yoochun’s chest. The audience gasped, but Yoochun was not aware of what’s happening. His sight was blurry and his head was buzzing, but he felt a familiar aura. He opened his eyes with difficulty and found out who the sword that stopped Yunho’s belonged to; it was the Demon King.

“Prince Yunho, what the hell are you doing?”

Yunho swallowed, panic apparent in his face. “F-Father, what are you doing here?”

“Explain this!” Demon King glared at his first son. “I was away for a week and you are trying to kill your brother?”

Yoochun sat up with difficulty and scoffed, “What is there to explain, Your Majesty?” He had stopped calling the Demon King ‘Father’ since he left the castle. “It’s the sacred duel. I wanted the throne, Yunho’s giving me my chance.”

“Yoochun…”

“With all due respect, Your Majesty, please step out of the ring.”

“You’re in no condition to continue fighting.”

“You’re in his way, Your Majesty,” Yoochun said sharply to his father. “The sacred duel shouldn’t be interrupted, even if you are the King. It is a fair way to die for me, losing on the battle to get what I want.”

“Which part of switching place with Changmin and breaking the bond with your mate do you consider fair, Yoochun?” Yunho looked at his father in surprise, he didn’t know his father would find out his trick. Yoochun raised an eyebrow. “Of course you couldn’t recognize him in the form of Changmin, and Changmin as Yunho would look different from him too. You shouldn’t be too naïve, always too nice. That is exactly why you always lose.”

Yoochun laughed. “Too nice, huh? You never pay attention to me that bad you could even call me nice. Good job parenting.”

The Demon King shook his head, “No, you are nice. That is why you can’t rule the Demon World.”

Yoochun narrowed his eyes at him, “Bullshit.”

The Demon King stared at his younger son and snapped his fingers. Two guards lifted Yoochun’s body and help him stand. They held his hands behind his back but he didn’t have the strength to fight back, so he complied. “Yunho, he’s still your brother…”

“He is not my brother!” Yoochun screamed will all the energy he had left. “He is not! And you’re not my father, stop acting like one!”

“Watch your mouth, shadow!” Yunho snarled. Yoochun winced at the word ‘shadow’; as it was the mock he always received when he was still living in the palace.

“Yunho!” The Demon King warned and Yunho shut his mouth. “Back to the castle, this duel is over. Heal him,” he motioned the Demon Sorcerer to heal Yoochun. Yunho turned around and started to walk away.

“I don’t need your help!” Yoochun pushed the sorcerer away but was too weak and wobbled until the guards caught him again. “Yunho! Come back here! We’re not done!”

“Yoochun!”

“When will you get off my back, Father?!” Yoochun shouted. “Stop trying to fix things! I don’t want to be ‘shadow’ ever again! I’m not going back to the palace no matter how hard you try!” His eyes were blurred from tears by the time he finished shouting.

“Yoochun!” A slap landed on his cheek before soft lips were pressed into his. “You idiot! Are you planning to get killed?”
Yoochun slowly felt his energy rushed back to him and he tasted blood. “Jaejoong?” Jaejoong pushed his wounded hand to Yoochun’s lips, so he closed his mouth over the wound and drank the blood. Slowly, the bond tattoo on Jaejoong’s chest appeared. Jaejoong sighed in relief.

“Are you trying to give me a heart attack?” Jaejoong hugged Yoochun tightly and Yoochun winced from the wounds on his body but chuckled and hugged back anyway. “I don’t even have to wait for GD to kill me, seriously, you idiot!”

Yoochun laughed and turned to find G-Dragon standing in the edge of the ring. He smiled and reached out a hand to his best friend’s direction. G-Dragon smiled and took it. “Thank you.”

“I’d rather lose you than see you dead,” G-Dragon chuckled bitterly.

“I’m sorry.”

“Don’t mention it, we’re still best friend right?”

“Forever.”

Jaejoong pulled away just enough to look at Yoochun’s face, “Apologize to your father.”

Yoochun frowned, as well as the rest of the audiences, G-Dragon, Yunho, and the Demon King himself. “What?”

“I said, apologize.”

“No.”

Jaejoong pouted and let go of Yoochun, “G, let’s go back, I’m pretty sure Junsu’s searching for me.”

“Oh come on!” Yoochun whined. “It’s not my fault!”

“You’re such a spoiled prince. Apologize. Now.”

“You don’t…”

“No, you don’t understand. He was right when he called you ‘nice’, he saw through you, through that bad boy mask you’re always wearing.”

Yoochun pouted and turned to his father. The Demon King looked at Jaejoong in amazement, while Yunho’s eyes were filled in disgust. Jaejoong shuddered at Yunho’s fierce gaze on him and took an involuntary step back, but Yoochun’s hand settled on his waist and he felt safe.

“You don’t have to, it was my fault,” The Demon King said as Yoochun opened his mouth.

“He has to,” Jaejoong cut in. “He was stupid. He couldn’t see how much you care.”

Yoochun pouted at Jaejoong but then sighed. “I’m sorry, Father.”

The Demon King smiled proudly at his son.

Changmin scoffed, “Very touching.” His arm snaked Yunho’s waist and he kissed his mate’s neck. “It makes me sick.” Yunho smiled and kissed Changmin.

Jaejoong gasped, “Changmin is Yunho’s mate?”

“You’re kinda slow, aren’t you?” G-Dragon mocked as he slowly healed Yoochun. “Who do you think told Junsu how to break the bond?” Jajeoong mouthed an ‘o’.

“Let’s get out of here, I’m sick of this love-dovey view,” Yunho kissed Changmin again.

“Wait,” Yoochun said. “I want a rematch.” Yunho looked at his dongsaeng degradingly, and the Demon King looked at his second son in disbelieve. “Well, if I’m going to lose, then let the match be fair.”

Yunho smirked, “You’re prepared to die, bitch?” he pointed his sword at Yoochun.

“No killing, Yunho,” The Demon King warned.

“No killing my favorite son, Yunho,” Yunho mimicked the Demon King in mockery. Yoochun raised an eyebrow. Favorite son? “Of course not, Father, I wont hurt your favorite son. Isn’t Yoochun all you care about?”

“Yeah right. You’re the favorite son!” Yoochun scoffed.

“Since when? I do everything perfectly, but all he ever worried about is you!”

“You’re too perfect there’s nothing more to worry about!”

“Maybe if you’re not such an attention whore for setting almost everything on fire, Father won’t have to worry about you all the time!”

“Fuck you, who did you call attention whore?”

“You heard me, whore!”

Yoochun was about to rebut when he heard Jaejoong’s laughter and everyone turned to him. “You guys are jealous of each other! Oh my, this is hilarious!” he laughed.

G-Dragon shook his head. “Your mate is kinda crazy, Chunnie… but he has a point.”

The Demon King rubbed his temple, “Whatever, okay, you both are my son and I love you. You guys settle this, but no killing.” He waved his hand and walked away.

Yoochun pouted, “See that? Leaving me with Yunho! He doesn’t care if I get killed!” Jaejoong laughed harder.

Changmin tugged on Yunho’s arm, “Forget Yoochun, you won anyway… Go home with me?”

Yunho shook his head and kissed Changmin’s pout. “I should get it over with.”

“What if you lose?”

“That won’t happen.”

Changmin buried his face on Yunho’s neck and refused to let go of his hug. “Don’t get hurt.”

“I won’t, love, I won’t.”

“You can’t promise something like that,” Yoochun cut in.

Yunho raised his sword, “We’ll see.”

Jaejoong pouted, “You need to promise me the same thing…”

Yoochun’s laugh was cut my Yunho’s sword and he had to jump back from the attack and use his sword to stop the attack after. Yunho pushed his sword on Yoochun’s and caught Yoochun off guard by kicking him in the stomach. Yoochun fell but got up fast enough to avoid Yunho’s stab. Yunho threw him a spell, causing a cut on Yoochun’s arm. Yoochun groaned in pain and Jaejoong bit his lip nervously, clutching to the as nervous G-Dragon beside him.

Yoochun threw balls of flames that hit Yunho’s bare back, pulling painful screams from the other. Changmin was fidgeting as he watched Yunho avoided Yoochun’s counter attacks. The sound of metals clashing filled the air; audiences eyed every movement the two princes made on the ring. Jaejoong bit his lip harder at every scream of pain Yoochun made when he received cuts from Yunho’s sharp sword. Changmin paced faster as he waited for Yunho to finish his little brother.

Suddenly Yoochun stopped avoiding attacks and received the punch Yunho landed on his face with a smirk. He fell on the ground and lied on his back, laughing. “Yah! What the hell?” Yunho was irritated as he felt his brother didn’t take the duel seriously.

Yoochun reached a hand to Jaejoong. “Isn’t the result obvious, hyung?”

“But…”

“I don’t want the throne anymore, it’s meaningless.” The audience gasped at Yoochun’s statement. “I think I’ve found something worth fighting for, and it’s not power.” Jaejoong smiled and entered the ring to take Yoochun’s hand and help him up. Yoochun kissed Jaejoong passionately, “The throne is all yours, hyung.”

Changmin rushed into the ring and hugged Yunho, “Enough, please, stop, okay? Just stop. Let it go. Go home with me.”

Yunho sighed and melted to Changmin’s arm. “Fine, go away dongsaeng. Maybe the next time I see you I’ll get over the urge to kill you.”

Yoochun laughed and bowed to his brother. “Take care of the kingdom, hyung.”

“Don’t I always, dongsaeng?”

Yoochun smiled and went off the stage with Jaejoong when Yunho called to him. “Come to the crowning. Family members have to be there,” Yunho said.

Just when Yoochun thought he couldn’t smile any wider, G-Dragon hugged him tightly. “You sure about the throne?”

“100%, G, thank you for everything.”

G-Dragon smiled and stole one last kiss from Yoochun, making Jaejoong pout. “Of course.”

***

They found Junsu crying on Jaejoong’s couch when the three of them got back to the apartment. Jaejoong who had been angry immediately softened and rushed to hug his best friend. Yoochun sighed in annoyance and G-Dragon patted his friend’s shoulder. “I owe you an apology,” Junsu said between his sobs.

“So you do.”

“I’m sorry, Jaejoong.”

“It’s okay, Su.”

“He almost got me killed!” Yoochun protested.

“He should be…” Junsu murmured. Yoochun glared at the human but Jaejoong only smiled understandingly at the two.

“Watch your mouth, human.” It was G-Dragon’s turn to be annoyed. He almost had a heart attack, although demons don’t really die from such thing, when Yoochun’s bond suddenly disappeared. He was almost sure Yoochun would die at some point in the battle. The thought was almost as terrifying as dying itself.

“Fuck off, demon.”

“Hey, you’re not the only protective best friend here,” Yoochun warned Junsu while stopping G-Dragon from throwing a spell at him.

Jaejoong sighed and took Junsu’s hand. “You guys stay here, I’m taking Junsu home.” He led Junsu out of his apartment and they walked together, Junsu refused to let go of Jaejoong’s hand and stop crying. “Su, are you okay?” halfway, Jaejoong asked in concern.

“How could I be okay!” Junsu cried harder. “I thought you’re going to hate me forever. I was only trying to save you! I wanted to do the right thing!”

“It’s okay, I’m not mad at you…”

“But you’re still with that demon!”

“Junsu…”

“He’s using you!”

“He gave up the throne for me…”

“He gave up the throne because Yunho was going to kill him!”

“Su! Please!”

Junsu batted Jaejoong’s hand away. “I love you more, Jae! I can give you more than he ever could! I’m the one who was always there! I was the one who had been protecting you! Why him? Why!”

Jaejoong was speechless; he didn’t know what to answer. Because he loves Yoochun? But Junsu was right; he was the one who had always been there for him. He was there even when Yoochun hurt him, he was there to take care of him when troubles find him. Was upsetting Junsu a way for him to repay his best friend’s kindness?

Junsu sighed and wiped his tears, “Give me time,” he said and walked away. Jaejoong sighed at turned around, going back to his apartment. He was a bit surprised to see G-Dragon, who he can sort of call Yoochun’s ex now, didn’t cuddle with his new boyfriend. Boyfriend, Jaejoong blushed at the thought. It had been long since the last time he had a boyfriend.

Yoochun looked up to him from the couch and smiled, “How’s Junsu?”

Jaejoong sighed and shook his head before placing himself on Yoochun’s lap, “He hates me.”

“That’s not possible, he hates me not you.”

“He’s jealous,” G-Dragon cut in.

“Yeah, and he needs to move on. Give him time?” Yoochun added.

Jaejoong nodded, “That’s what he said.” He snuggled closer to Yoochun and rested his head on the demon’s shoulder.

G-Dragon pouted at the sight. It hurt a little, but he decided to ignore it. “Maybe I need to find my mate too…”

Yoochun smirked, “Maybe you should.”

G-Dragon mirrored Yoochun’s smirk and got up. “Yeah, I should. See you two lovebirds around,” he said as he walked out the front door.

Yoochun kissed Jaejoong, “So, there’s only the two of us left.”

Jaejoong smiled, “And you’re going to bed after the exhausting fight, right?” Yoochun pouted but let Jaejoong led him to bed and tucked him in. “You need to rest and recover.”

“Can I ask a question?” Yoochun asked wishfully.

“Sure.”

“Will you be here when I wake up?”

Jaejoong laughed, “That’s a stupid question.”

“And you’ll only look at me from now on, right?”

Jaejoong smiled and planted a small kiss on Yoochun’s lips. He perfectly understood that was what Yoochun had been searching his whole life, someone who sees only him. He desperately tried to find someone who sees who he is and not him as Yunho’s shadow. “No, you are not a shadow anymore,” Jaejoong whispered gently. “You’re the only one in my eyes.”

Yoochun smiled and closed his eyes. Jaejoong knew he was exhausted and it didn’t take him long to fall into a deep sleep. With fingers entwined, Jaejoong watched Yoochun sleep peacefully. Shadow? Jaejoong thought, How could someone who shines so brightly like Yoochun be a shadow?

“Sleep well, my star,” Jaejoong kissed the sleeping Yoochun in the forehead before settling beside him. For once, Jaejoong didn't care. He got what he wanted, Yoochun's heart, so for the mean time he will drown himself in happiness. He decided not to think of Junsu for the night and went to meet Yoochun in the dreamland.

Epilog

Junsu cried himself to sleep. Junho figured what must have happened so he let his twin brother slammed every door he passed through when he got home without questioning. As a good brother he tried to stop people in the house to question the usually angelic Junsu who suddenly came home shouting all the worst swear words ever created in the universe. He sighed when Junsu slammed the last door, which was his bedroom’s, and the lock was turned.

He threw himself to the bed, lied on his stomach, and soaked his pillow wet. He didn’t bother turning the lights on or to close the curtain. He lied in the dark and fell asleep due to crying exhaustion. The concerned Junho who had been waiting in front of the locked room sighed and left when he heard the crying stopped.

A hand suddenly caressed his cheeks and Junsu jerked awake. He saw no one and the digital clock on his nightstand showed 01:23. Junsu sighed and buried his face to his wet pillow but then he felt someone sat on his thighs. “Junsu,” a not so familiar voice sounded his name. Junsu looked up and stared at the figure he recognized. Yeah, it was the demon with red dragon skin tattoo on his left eye.

“G-Dragon. What the…”

G-Dragon smirked. “You know, I kinda hate you. Isn’t it ironic when I tried to find my mate, the diagram brought me here?”

“The fuck?” Junsu rolled over to his back, G-Dragon shifted only enough to let him do so.

“I know right?”

Junsu groaned in frustration, “I can’t believe this.”

“You’re going to fight back?” G-Dragon grinned.

“Is that any use?”

“Not really…”

“Then, whatever.”

“Seriously?” G-Dragon asked in disbelieves but Junsu nodded. He smiled and kissed each of Junsu’s slightly swollen eyes. “I mean, you sure? I’m not pressuring ‘cause we both just got our heart broken. I get it if you don’t want to…”

Junsu sighed. “Do it.”

“Really?”

“Yes, take my mind off Jaejoong.” G-Dragon leaned forward to kiss Junsu. He rocked his body to Junsu, their erection pressed together. Junsu moaned and arched his hips up, hands gripping on the back of G-Dragon’s shirt. G-Dragon pulled out his pencil knife. It danced on the pale skin of Junsu’s collarbone.

“Fall in love or in hate, speak the truth or spread the lie.”

And only moans filled the room sweetly under the moonlight, echoing through the beautiful night. On an apartment room not so far from it, another couple was making as sweet music of their own.

THE END.
