written in the stars!

I've been wanting The Sims 2 for the longest time - not actively wanting (or, not actively enough to keep an eye out for it in the sales), but more of a general "I'd like a game like that" sort of thing. Every once in a while I'd remember it and covet and then I'd eventually forget about it again. Rinse and repeat, for the past...couple of years. More, really, because this dated back to the original Sims (I used to have Sim City waaaaay back in the day, and I loved it).

Recently, I was chatting with some people and stickykeys633mentioned how addictive it was, and that stirred up the whole wanting thing again. And then redcoast posted some stuff about it, and that made me want it more. And then I realized I could set up my own, wacky version of Heroes, and that pretty much guaranteed that I'd never ever forget the program again, because - HI! Heroes! If I can bring Heroes into any non-TV part of my life, I consider my day a success.

So, yesterday, I thought - why not check to see how much it costs? And it was totally on sale at Circuit City! No rebates, none of that business to mess around with, either. And I got it for $20, instead of the regular $40, and it was like Fate totally wanted me to have this game. Seriously! Because now I can have a Heroes neighborhood, complete with crazy adventures, and I'm totally going to do a Pride and Prejudice one, too, because I was fandom-ing that before I knew what fandoms were. (Fate, by the way, also wants me to share details of what my Sims are up to with y'all, particularly if things get entertaining. So expect that sort of thing. Just a warning in advance.) :D

Except - none of this can happen before Friday afternoon. In fact, the game will be put into hiding until Friday afternoon. Because I have an exam Friday morning, and if it's really as addictive as it sounds...let's just say I need to study, and not play with Sims. Even if Fate wants me to. So there will be no tempting going on; that sucker is going to be stuck in with the bedsheets, for the next five days. I will resist.

Oh! And a request on a completely unrelated topic: I want recommendations! Y'all know how in various Victorian fiction, there were references to novels being not proper reading material for young ladies? Anyone know which novels they were talking about? I want something good and gossipy-ish to read post exam (in between playing with the Sims and Spring Cleaning the apartment), and I haven't read anything that was written before the last twenty years in what feels like forever. Barring that, anything from that era - 17-1900 that will read rather quickly. So no Charles Dickens, please. Charles Dickens means I have to draw out character maps just to keep track of who's related to whom.
