Snow White Toddler Costume

Yeeeah. Two posts in 6 months. That's some kind of record, even for me. LOL. I know I owe everyone a what's-going-on-with-me post, but first, I just had to share my favorite princess's finished Snow White costume.

I've been crazy busy like woah with my final year of graduate school, so I wasn't able to do all of the little details that I wanted to on her costume (especially the collar and cape). And I wasn't able to make her a purse for her candy like last year, but I have plans to do that for Christmas. I don't have many in-progress pictures either since I went home for a long weekend specifically to sew Rachel's costume and, with other family obligations, didn't finish before I had to return to school. So Mom kindly completed the last little bits (zipper, hem, sewing down the lining) and sent me these via email. Okay, disclaimers aside, here ya go:

I had most of the materials already: the blue crepe and satin lining for the bodice are leftovers from my Funeral Gown mantle; the blue satin for the sleeves were scraps from my first Homecoming dress; the red crepe for the undersleeves were from Beth's Valentine Shirt; and the gold satin from my LOTR-inspired Gold Dress. The only fabric I purchased was the yellow satin and taffeta lining for the skirt. Yay for using the Stash! :)

I did something a little different for the sleeves, so here's a little rundown of the pattern pieces:

I started with a fitted sleeve (#01) that was included in the pattern I bought (now out-of-print Disney toddler costume). This I used for the sleeve lining. The same pattern also had a gathered sleeve (#02) and this became the red crepe undersleeve, which I gathered to the sleeve lining wrong sides together. I used the fitted sleeve to create the pattern for the blue sleeve strips (#03) and these were self-lined before being attached on top of the red gathered undersleeve. There are four strips about 2" wide plus seam allowances, and I made sure to center one at the sleeve cap and one at the sleeve seam. I divided the remaining distance to create the other two strips. Finally, the whole sleeve was bound with a band of gold satin (#04). This was a simple rectangle the same length as the bottom edge of the fitted sleeve.

More info. on the costume and a few more pictures can be found [here].
