I need to vent here or I'll take it out on the next two classes. And since it's the little ones, it definitely wouldn't be fair.
So my 3rd grade classes are making an ABC book using music terms (Accordian, Banjo, Clarinet, Drum, etc). Every letter needs to have it's own word and picture. They needed to write their names on the back and on the front: A is for Accordian, or whatever letter they had. We have been working on this for nearly a month. I have repeated these directions several times and in several different ways, even writing them on the board.
I go to collect the drawings today because I wanted to put them in a book complete with binding. I asked the students to go through and ABC order their papers, double checking they had one paper for each letter. The class is missing 4 letters: C,F,N,Z. They had 2 D and 2 M...
SEVERAL TIMES I EXPLAINED THE DIRECTIONS! I feel like I'm talking to a brick wall. I know, I know they're kids. But good Lord. Needless to say, they know I'm angry with them. I now have to cut next week's lesson short so that they can finish their pictures.
ARG!
But on a side note... rather than take the time to look up Yo Yo Ma and what he looked like... a student drew a rapper... complete with bling and an eye patch. You're kidding me right?
