I just finished reading The Alchemist, and I must say, I'm a little disappointed.

There was a review on the back comparing it to The Little Prince. So of course, I went in with incredibly high hopes.

The beauty of The Little Prince is that it's a sweet story, and it's very gentle with its meaning. The first time I read it, I didn't get it. (I was 8, and I wanted it to be like the cartoon. Shut up.)

Reading The Alchemist is like ... how can I put this? Imagine going to the president of the National Organization for Women and saying you don't understand what feminism is. And then go to the president of PETA and ask why we should save the animals. And then go to Jerry Falwell and ask him what's so great about God. And then go to a construction worker and ask them how their sledgehammer works, and could they please use your skull for the demonstration.

In other words, he's a little heavy-handed with the "follow your quest and become one with God" message. I mean, really. It probably didn't help that I finished it in one day, but seriously. A little more delicate hand would have been very much better taken.

I'm going to go put some ice on my brain.
