Today it was warm enough to walk from Korean class (by Gangnam station) to my house for lunch. This is a 40-minute walk, which I adore. Tomorrow it will be back down to 19 degrees, but it was fun while it lasted.

I had a rather delightful weekend.

First...I went to work! It was my second weekend in a row, this upcoming Saturday will be the third. But it wasn't too bad, I just gave tests to the kids, which were apparently hard enough to keep them occupied for all of each two-hour session.

After that I went to meet Jiyoung at Starbucks, as I usually do. We studied Korean and talked about how to pray in English, and chatted about our lives. Then I went home, David came over and said my house was too cold, so I baked chocolate cookies with white chocolate chips. They weren't that good though. I am thinking about adding semi-sweet chocolate chips to the rest of the batter.

But anyway, then my house was warm and it smelled awesome.

Sunday, I went to church, which had some of my favorite readings, especially the one from Jeremiah about God knowing us before we were even born, and Saint Paul's wedding reading.

I met Erica, my neighbor, and Silvia, too, so it was nice to see delightful folks. Usually, at my church, newcomers are asked to stand and introduce themselves. Some people do, some people don't. This weekend, two people did. They were North Korean defectors, with their South Korean mentor. I'd never met North Koreans before. They were two girls in their early 20's, and they were both very shy and VERY excited about everything, like the whole world was so amazing.

Talk about perspective.

I had sushi and ice cream with Silvia, and then she went off to make lesson plans, and I went off to climb a small mountain, at 인웡사 (Inwongsa) which is also a temple, I believe.

As I was climbing, this absolutely TINY puppy ran up to me. Now, I do not normally have any interest or affiliation with dogs of any size. But oh my GOODNESS it was cute!

I finally got to the point where the path up the hill was inaccessible. A chubby Korean man informed me, in Korean, that I couldn't go on, the path was too slippery (I think). So I said okay, thank you. He tried to keep talking to me for a while, in hardcore Korean, until I said (in Korean), Sorry, I can't understand. He very cheerfully replied, Oh, okay, well anyway, have a good trip!

And on I went. I tried to go to a palace I liked, by foot instead of train, but I got lost, and decided to have some fancy tea at a place called Tea Class.

Then I walked some more, wound up in Gwanghwamun Square, so I watched the skaters and went to the King Sejong exhibit underground, which was cute.

And then, finally, I went home, and slept for about ten hours.

So, I had a happy time.

Today's class was pretty good too, we're doing indirect speech, which is easy in theory but just hard for me to remember to use properly. It will come with time, I think.
